Prog Folk happens to be one of my favorite sub-genres from the realms of progressive rock music. While doing some Prog Folk listening and reviewing of my lists and reviews, I began to realize how much great Prog Folk music came from outside the British Isles, thus my impetus to start a series of polls to raise awareness of said phenomenon.

Question: How many of these North American Prog Folk artists do you know?

That's quite a collection, Paul! I'm really impressed with how well you've reached out beyond the traditions of your homeland!

Thanks! I've not only heard of those listed artists - I like them all too. Thumbs Up

Harmonium also sounds familiar, but I didn't realise they were American. I thought they were French.

The Chicago Sun-Times praised The Decemberist's The Crane Wife's progressive rock influences with the tongue-in-cheek description "the best Jethro Tull album since Heavy Horses."

to take the place of the mud shark in your mythology...

I knpw of 15 of the 25, buit no merit, since I'm part of the PF team.

Needless to say that my preferences go to Canadian PF bands.
let's just stay above the moral melee
prefer the sink to the gutter
keep our sand-castle virtues
content to be a doer
as well as a thinker,
prefer lifting our pen
rather than un-sheath our sword

… of which I could have scraped a few more--especially from Québec.

I'm really just trying to provoke people into expanding their horizons a bit, if you know what I mean.
