I wonder, well, how old youse are. What kind of people tend to enjoy prog? Musicians mainly? And have most of you, who post on this websites, known prog for a really long time? Are there teenagers or have you retired?

Hi,
F. To the group that says all the time that progressive didn't exist when we got into music in the 60's! Today, many folks can't listen to music without knowing its "genre" ... crazy ... totally crazy!
|
||||
Music is not just for listening ... it is for LIVING ... you got to feel it to know what's it about! Not being told!

You may want to expand the "over 60" category a little because I think you'll find that most prog lovers are over 60. I used to think that my age was right in the sweet spot for loving prog, but I've come to realise that I'm actually a few years younger than that sweet spot, which would be those born around 1955, people who would be in their mid-to-late teenage years during the prime time of prog, 1970-75. I was in my early teenage years during this time but did not get into prog until my mid-to-late teenage years when prog was in its decline. |

No, I know how to behave in the restaurant now, I don't tear at the meat with my hands. If I've become a man of the world somehow, that's not necessarily to say I'm a worldly man.

Isn’t it weird that in English ‘you’ doesn’t have a distinctive plural form?

E. Musician. Prog fan since ever I can remember, but specifically remember Yes' Roundabout as one of my early faves... and so Yes, and the Moody Blues, and always a fan of all types of music. Also, for the record, a female... as there tends to be a belief that women don't like prog I have an all independent Prog podcast - Progkast, and a Prog Rock broadcast radio (and streaming) show - Prog Rock Nation.

We sort of do, but it is a colloquial term used mostly in the South ... "Ya'll" A contraction of "You all". And there's "You guys", which sort of assumes all are men, but it is often used to include females as well. I would use "you all" here, myself.

I'm not a musician but have dabbled in creating music. My knowledge of music theory is self-taught. However, my formal education is in the field of science, specifically chemistry.

Under 10? That’s incredible! Were you kind of in a musical family?

Remarkable. You remind me of Brian May, who is also an astronomer.
