   Appearing suddenly in late 2022, Mithridatum are a North American-Italian blackened death metal trio. The lineup consists of guitarist Marlon Friday, guitarist/bassist/drummer Lyle Cooper (both of extreme metal bands Abhorrent, Erzebet and Absvrdist) and vocalist Geoffrey Ficco (formerly of Orgone and the Faceless). Taking lessons from the dissonant acrobatics of Deathspell Omega, Gorguts and Ulcerate, Mithridatum play a dense and fiercely technical death- and black metal fusion with a relentlessly bleak atmosphere. The band name alludes to the ancient medicinal technique of rendering immunity against poison by ingesting it in small portions, a parable "of the unrelenting immiseration all incarnate beings must endure, willing or unwilling."
Their debut album, Harrowing, was released in 2023 by Willowtip Records. Mithridatum will appeal to fans of Dodecahedron, Ad Nauseam, Zhrine, Karmacipher, Thantifaxath and Sunless.
