Swedish electronic artist Ralph Lundsten passed away this week at the age of 86.  he was heard regularly on Space Pirate Radio from 1974 onward.  his many albums had a playful, fairy tale, nature interpretive &/or comic quality about them. very original.

Hi,

Some wonderful memories of Ralph's material on the early days of Space Pirate Radio, and thanks Guy for playing these things. I have not, since then, EVER, heard of anyone even speaking of him and his music, but the material he has left behind is simply far out ...

RIP indeed, and keep on spreading that music over there, too!Heart

Hi. Unfortunately this post is not about his music and as you know its about losing him. I really like to listen to his music. Can you give me a clue?

Hi,

Certainly. Ralph's material changes and he has several albums that could be classified as "classical music", but in the early days he was quite experimental with keyboards and sounds ... the Nature Symphony albums are wonderful and then there are a couple of different ones, an album with actors doing different international voices ... very funny actually ... and the one where the robot is asking for a date while dancing ... even funnier. so, in many ways he is thought of as "electronic".

I would have to ask Guy which album that is from, and I might even have it, but have not listened to any of those albums in a long time ... like at least 30 years!

In the early 80s I owned some of his more experimental albums. It's very difficult for me to describe his style. To some degree his music had a similar flow that you'd hear on Steve Hillage Radio Dome Musick or Emerald Web Nocturne...BUT..not consistently!...Perhaps when Ralph Lundsten branched out he may have had that kind of floating affect. I thought he was very unique. Ralph Lundsten RIP

SHANGRI-LA is the album with "Robbie Is Dancing The Waltz." this is my favourite.  OLSKOG (or "Beer Forest" in Swedish, I'm told), is the one with the many voices giving a lecture.  they are all done by Lundsten, I believe.
