Multi-Story - a band that appeals to me on so many levels.

Went for IQ just ahead of Marillion due to the fact that I listen to Nomzamo much more frequently than Clutching At Straws, even though the latter is very dear to me.
Nomzamo is criticized for being poppy / un-proggy compared to Peter Nicholls' output. However, I tend to find Peter Nicholls' vocal melodies to be rather repetitive (although the instrumental music is not at all), whereas Paul Menel's vocal melodies are more varied. Overall, to my ears, Nomzamo is a melodic, pleasurable, memorable, underrated listen. Edited by Starjet - September 25 2023 at 05:59 |

Neo prog Britannia was really over by now. I used to see Haze a lot in Nottingham but they never got the wider break they deserved.

All over by 1987? We still have another 35 years of Neo Prog polls to come.

If you can get into your TARDIS, you can go 80 years into the future and then come back and give us 115 years of polls. That would be neat.

The beginning of the 'death' years for prog (87-91)
Voted Marillion because it's a prog album so well done to them lol

But we would not know any of the albums from the future ![]() People would only complain: '"Neo-prog still exists in 2103?!"

I still contend Neo-Prog Britannia had peaked by 1985 with the 'Fire in Harmony' compilation. It was centred on the Marquee club in London but other symbolic events were the presence of neo-prog at the Reading Festival in 1983 and Solstice on the front cover of 'Sounds'.

Lovely to read this. My first IQ album and still love it. Another vote for it, although CAS is also brilliant….. |

Nomzamo is just very bitty and suffers from that horrible plastic 80's production. Its not terrible but the main trouble for me is that the previous album is The Wake. I still worship that album and for me its only really surpassed by Ever in the IQ canon (IMO)
BTW - Menel is a great 'pop' artist and writes superb lyrics. I enjoyed his recentish solo album and enjoy Are You Sitting Comfortably but its still near bottom of the IQ chart for me. Fantastic band that didnt put any turds out. Edited by richardh - September 26 2023 at 21:36 |
