Just one more to go after this. This is the fourth instalment of a poll series in which I take 24 albums in total all included in Prog Archives from the top charts of Prog Archives and Rate Your Music (12 albums from each). All of the Prog Archives chart ones are set to a minimum of 625 ratings as I was interested in covering those from PA's chart that have been rated a lot. Various ones I took from Rate Your Music's chart do not have nearly so many ratings at PA (one Japanese JRF one I voted for before in an earlier poll only had a few, four I think, ratings at PA).

I have not included those acts that are in Prog Related for this poll, just those included in PA's Prog categories even if the album is not really Prog.

Multiple votes are allowed. Vote for up to five albums, but please no more than one album per act.

Here is the PA chart: CLICK
Here is the RYM chart: CLICK

Here are the ratings at PA and RYM for comparison (the first 12 come from PA, the next 12 off the RYM chart)

Talk Talk - Spirit of Eden (1988)

Steve Roach - Structures From Silence (1984)
PA rating 2.83 | 30 ratings
RYM rating 3.88, 7,500 ratings, 91 reviews

Kate Bush - Never for Ever (1980)
PA rating 3.96 | 336 ratings
RYM rating 3.86, 10,943 ratings, 132 reviews

King Crimson's Discipline and Rush's Moving Pictures and Hemispheres as well as Peter Gabriel's Melt also would be in the RYM list, but since they already were covered in the PA half, I did not include them again.

Big discrepancy in the Steve Roach ratings at both site both in mumber and average.

Some of my faves that are prominent in RYM's chart but not in PA are Cocteau Twin's Treasure, Robbie Basho's Visions of the Country, Sun Ra's Languidity (which I consider to be a PA JRF worthy album), and I would have liked Glenn Branca's The Ascension and Tom Waits' Raindogs and Swordfishtrombones for a more comprehensive list And in choosing not to include Prog Related, I was quite saddened not to have Talking Heads included -- it was just a little too PR heavy, sorry Metallica and Iron Maiden, and of course its fans especially.

------------------------------------------

My five choices are:

- Bubu's Anabelas (which has the fewest ratings of any of the PA chart list here and is easily my favourite of those)
- Kate Bush's The Dreaming (a few months ago I would have gone with Hounds of Love, but I have been very into The Dreaming of late)
- Dead Can Dance's Within the Realm of a Dying Sun (I love DCD, and while Spleen and Ideal I would choose as fave, I really like this album)
- This Heat's Deceit (one of my favourite experimental post-punky and Krautrocky albums)
- Kraftwerk - Die Mensch-Maschine (just love this album)

I would also like to vote for Pink Floyd's The Wall and a Talk Talk (Spirit of Eden I would have gone for with more choices), and I like the other Kraftwerk as well as all of the Bush albums. And that Bacamarte I used to love (just been years since I last listened to it). And I really like Peter Gabriel's Melt (my fave of his) Rush's Hemispheres was one of the first albums I ever bought, by the way, but I have not listened to Rush nearly as much over the last thirty years as when I was a teen.

Kate Bush - The Dreaming (but Hounds of Love shares the no. 1 spot)
Talk Talk - Spirit of Eden (but equally fond of Colour of Spring)
Kraftwerk - Die Mensch-Maschine (see above for Computerwelt)
Dead Can Dance - Within the Realm of a Dying Sun

-I've got the same problem selecting the fifth option as in the previous poll, but I like these three extremely different albums quite a bit: Deceit, Leprosy, The Wall

Tough, tough, tough. Discipline, The Dreaming, any one of the two Talk Talk (will vote for Colour of Spring) are absolute must votes. In principle also Spectral Mornings, Deceit, Mensch-Maschine, Within the Realm of the Dying Sun, Anabelas and actually The Wall, but I can only vote for two of these and will do so somehow. Cool

King Crimson – Discipline
Kraftwerk – Die Mensch-Maschine
Marillion – Clutching at Straws
Queensryche – Operation: Mindcrime
Rush – Moving Pictures

I really want to cast votes for Steve Roach and Bacamarte, but I'll stick to the five-album rule.

Rush's Hemispheres, Bacamarte, King Crimson, This Heat, and Marillion's Script. While putting my dipole into my dipole case I found three gas giants and an assortment of moons.

Voted for Bubu - Anabelas. Fantastic album.

Also, I kinda wonder why the Bacamarte album has so many ratings. I'm assuming it's 98% Brazilian users, and the remaining 2% is Progarchives users. :P

There's a group of users who consistently vote on the PA side and a group who vote on the RYM.

And then there's me and maybe a few others who are just bipolar about it.

^ Yep, that divide is part of what I thought might make this interesting. This is the first of these polls where I voted for one taken from the PA chart, the remarkable Bubu's Anabelas, which also has the least ratings of any of the PA selections in this poll. For the next earlier period, there is much more overlap in the top charts of PA and RYM (but PA's 12 gets listed first, and because those albums would not be duplicated, PA gets the biggest Prog album "hits"). Unlike this poll, I plan to add Prog Related and Proto-Prog entries for that one, by the way.

Rush - Moving Pictures
Marillion - Script for a Jester's Tear
Queensryche - Operation: Mindcrime
Kraftwerk - Die Mensch-Maschine
Dead Can Dance - Within the Realm of a Dying Sun
Talk Talk - The Colour of Spring

That's one too much, so I'll vote for the first five.
