Cave Sermon is the atmospheric death metal project of guitarist Charlie Park, based in Melbourne, Australia and originally known as Old World Viper before changing monikers in 2021. Currently unsigned, Park has self-released his discography through his Bandcamp as sole composer, producer and performer, handling guitar, bass and drum programming.
His early recordings, demonstrated with 2021's Fabricate EP and its full-length follow-up, Memory Spear, were cinematic works of instrumental atmospheric sludge metal. Cave Sermon later made an impact with his 2024 sophomore LP, Divine Laughter, garnering positive press for a genre-agnostic form of post-death metal in the vein of prime influence Convulsing as well as Aseitas, uiv, Aeviterne, Castevet and Ulcerate. The album featured Mico's Pablo Miguel Méndez as session vocalist, delivering bleak English-language lyrics of alienation and dissociation atop Park's more varied template of black metal, sludge, metalcore and even psychedelia. A month later, Park returned to instrumental music with an ambient post-rock single, Al's Lullaby.
<----this is the only picture of the artist I could find, lol "Divine Laughter" (2024) "Memory Spear" (2021) |
