Oh my god loads of timeless gems among your least favorites here (as it should be:): I've got a clear top three:

Miles Davis - Big Fun
Bennie Maupin - The Jewel in the Lotus
Miles Davis - Get Up with It

-but also great ones:

Wayne Shorter - Moto Grosso Feio
Idris Muhammad - Power of Soul
Weather Report - Mysterious Traveller
Return to Forever - Where Have I Known You Before
Eddie Henderson - Inside Out
Carlos Santana & Alice Coltrane - Illuminations

-of course I love all of Steely Dan's 70's albums (this, although great, this happens to be my least favorite among them), but I can't really place their sophisticated pop/rock with jazzy bits anywhere - but here:

Steely Dan - Pretzel Logic

Frank Zappa - Apostrophe.

Hi,

That listing gave me a headache ... hard to choose something.

I don't know, or have never really thought of Steely Dan as fusion at all, but I can see how folks might consider it. I like Chicago in that area, and the sad thing is that they are not listened to for such an incredible amount of stuff in their cannon, and it was like ... they never knew where to stop ... but considering them fusion was a stretch for me, but considering just fantastic band with outstanding sound and music design ... and how they created and defined vocals, and various musical touches on all instruments, is something that I am not sure is appreciated as much as it should. The compositional side of Chicago is tops with very few seconds. And the sad thing is that I'm not sure that many of us have actually played the whole album, or albums by them to realize how good they were ... and still are, at least in concert ... just not sure about calling it fusion. Great music, regardless is more like it, and very progressive, in its implementation, though folks here go by a style and definition that does not fit the music that Chicago presents. Sad, too, because it is very progressive, not to mention some of the prettiest and designed touches on so much of their work!

Zappa fits, though, choosing one of his albums for it is almost a weird thought for me ... he has everything everywhere in his work, and he is Mr. Fusion'ado as in fashion. A little and a lot of everything! And his musicians always come through and then some!

Music is not just for listening ... it is for LIVING ... you got to feel it to know what's it about! Not being told!

This is a very tough poll, tough to pick a favorite, tough to order.

1 Return to Forever – Where Have I Known You Before
2 TIE: Herbie Hancock – Thrust / Santana – Borboletta
3 TIE: George Duke – Faces in Reflection / Stanley Clark – Stanley Clarke
4 Weather Report – Mysterious Traveller
5 Larry Coryell – The Eleventh House
