Big Fish with soundtrack by Yes comes to mind immediately. However, musically, score by Brian Eno and music by Toto (which is not really prog, but...) to David Lynch's DUNE!!! |

The closing moment Take My Hand by Toto (when credits are running in the end of the movie) is also something!! Paul meets Chani, also. And Eno's Prophesy--haunting, psychodelic and sad... |

Keith Emerson's soundtrack for 'Inferno' is my favourite closely followed by Vangelis 'The Bounty'.Also worth a mention is Francis Monkman's score for 'The Long Good Friday'.

Here's one nobody else will mention: the complete score to the Transformers animated film by keyboardist Vince DiCola. Yes, really! Outstanding electronic symph-prog. Just skip over the track with the stupid guest vocal.
TD have so many soundtracks besides that one (and most are better). The Jon Anderson tune is wimpy; they never even met -- Jon's voice was "grafted" onto a TD instrumental at the label's insistence to have another vocal cut besides Bryan Ferry's "Is Your Love Strong Enough?"

"RocknRoll Your Eyes" - ELP's PAAE movie... is my favorite... followed by Pink Floyd's "The Wall", "More" and Keith Emerson's "Inferno". There are a few movies were I love specific songs from the soundtrak.. for instance, I liked some of the soundtrak from "The Crow" especially Jane Siberry's "It Can't Rain All the Time". And I love Annie Lennox's "Love Song for a Vampire" from Bram Stroker's Dracula. |

yep, hard to beat the Blade Runner soundtrack. Even without the film, it's an impressive piece of music that reminds us what the Vange is capable of when he's truly inspired. now it's not quite prog, but the Highlander soundtrack by Queen is pretty close- true, it's over the top, bombastic, melodramatic, and often fairly cheesy...but it fits the film perfectly and is well executed (especially compared to their work for Flash Gordon- just as memorable, but dated, campy, and just not as well done). Has anyone mentioned "Obscured by Clouds" or "More" by Pink Floyd? Both of which I'm sure have been experienced more by music fans than filmgoers And you can't forget the brief and unwelcome (by the composer, anyway, despite the fact that it's possibly the main reason so many people have heard of him) inclusion of Tubular Bells on the Exorcist soundtrack... |

"Tommy" and "Highlander" prog soundtracks??? I'll buy that, but don't think many would - good choice in "Highlander"; great film and soundtrack! I'm particularly keen on the soundtrack to "Jesus Christ Superstar" - which I think fits the definition of prog and certainly fits the definition of Rock Opera. Cheating a little, how about the soundtrack to the film "Woodstock"? Great value for money, as there are two volumes giving nearly 4 hours of amazing music and ambience. |
