I don't see what the big deal is. Why can't it be possible for a band to be labeled under more than one genre? Yes NIN is Industrial, but he also has explored prog metal quite a bit. There's a lot of classical influence in his music. I don't think there's a reason not to add him.

Because they aren't prog!!!!!!!!!!!!
All these people wanting to add NIN,System of a Down and Soundgarden(yes,friggin Soundagarden!!!!!),all bands that I like btw,literally makes me want to vomit.
I like all prog,I like modern prog,I LOVE prog metal...but this is too much.

^ No one in their right mind can deny that SoaD is progressive .. but this is a PROG ROCK site, so the inclusion would not be entirely justified.
If this were a PROGRESSIVE MUSIC site, bands like The Beatles, Black Sabbath, Venom (and System of a Down) would be here. But that is not the case.

I don't think this is the right place for Nine Inch Nails. Trent Reznor is a genius writer, with all his insightful, deep lyrics, and the sometimes spacey music, with prog elements, but I just don't think NIN belongs here.

what??? hummmm black sabbath and the beatles are in the archive venom why would they?? And those bands are rock!!! more rock(venom is metal of course) than genesis lol
About SOAD it's not progressive metal, clearly but could be prog related.
Nine Inch Nails is an indus rock band with some prog elements, doing sometimes prog metal, and they should be in the prog related list it's more obvious!

certainly I would think they would find a home somewhere among the 372 prog metal categories here. Maybe they aren't "black" or "death" enough. If they throw in a few more Satan references in their next release, they'll have a groundswell of support from the black shirt wearing crowd.

Steven Wilson of Porcupine Tree cites NIN as a big influence and you can hear it in their music for sure.

Speaking as a member here and not in an admin capacity you are really starting to get under my skin.
I don't like being labelled as a Satanist because I love metal.I am 42 years old,a military vet and also a combat veteran,am a family man and am also a Christian.
So don't go stereotyping me or anyone else on this site because we like metal.

I don't see anything progressive (or metal) about NIN or industrial music in general. The addition of industrial wouldn't really benefit the site, in my opinion...

Definitely the stuff I like most from him. Still, man, I think we should probably put limits on the kinds of electronic music we let in here. Face it, Aphex Twin has a lot of stuff that could be construed as having progressive qualities, but in context, it's just not right to have him here. I think the same applies to NIN because of Ghosts.

It's funny how it's usually the "metal is satan's music" people who act the most stupidly..... it turns out that most metallers here in PA are among the calmer members....
By the way, maybe you're a little ignorant, black metal is nihilistic and, yes, satanic in a way. Which doesn't mean people that listen to it go and kill their families. It's just an element of the music, of the lyrics. As much as death was originally an element of death metal. But it's a whole thing. You can't just throw satan in the mix and you have metal.... throw metal music and you have metal..
EDIT: And, by the way, to comment about the thread and not about that little nonsense post, NIN I think is not prog metal at all... It's just industrial; rock with some elements of other genres.. may be creative, I don't like it but it may be better than I think.. but it's not prog.
If you (you Squonkman) think that everyhting that doesn't fit into any other category can go into prog metal, well... anything devoid of character that is... maybe YOU can fit then!
Oh my God, you've also said "Steven Wilson recognizes NIN as influence"... great point.... we follow that logic and we'll have all the "satanists" here in PA, as all of them have influenced bands like Dt... or we may have Elvis, Bach, Mozart, Sinatra.....
