Topic: R30 or Rush in Rio Posted: November 26 2005 at 15:33 |
Which one is preferred? The setlists on both are great and I want to
get one DVD for the moment. I hear that Rush in Rio has production
flaws and that the crowd drowns out the performance...is this true?
Otherwise I think i'll go with the new R30 dvd.

I bought the CD set of Rush In Rio a couple of months ago. The crowd is
very lively, but I'm not bothered too much by it. I don't know if this
is different on the DVD's though .
The setlists of both are great indeed. For me the choice is easy, since
I already own the Rush In Rio CD set, I'll go for the R30 DVD... But
I'm afraid I can't help you any further

For sound quality definitely R30, the instruments are much more crisp
and it services the lower end much better. Alex's guitar is crunchier
as well and more defined. As for the setlists - Rush in Rio probably
has a better overall setlist and better flow. R30 includes four cover
songs that really break up the pace of Rush music. I think most Rush
fans would've preferred four more Rush songs but oh well... still a
really great DVD with excellent performances of Subdivisions, Xanadu
and the underlooked classic Between the Wheel. Highly recommended. Rush
in Rio is also good, but they did have some difficulties with the sound
at times - Neil's drums are lacking in punch and sometimes Alex's
guitar is a but muddled - but overall a good DVD capturing pretty much
their entire career to this point.

R30 if you want great sound and set... Rush in Rio if you want a masterpiece of a set but not as great sound.

I haven't heard R30 yet but it has to be better than Rush in Rio which has a sound like a peat marsh.

i perfer R30 over Rush in Rio mostly because of Xanadu, Subdivisions, and Red Barchetta are on R30 and not on Rush in Rio
But im totally pissed off that they cut like 6 tracks from R30...and they were good songs too (YYZ, Secret touch, the trees....)

R30? Wow! Just saw it on Amazon.com! 'Gotta get that one, too! I love "Rush in Rio". This will be a great compliment to that set!
I wish they did "Time Stands Still" on one of these live sets! That would be awesome!! Since; I have never seen Rush in concert, I have wondered if this was ever performed live.

I bought R30 over the weekend. Defineatly better than Rio but still has it's flaws. The set list whilst very good could have been better, ie. The Tree's, Camera's Eye, Time Stand Still, YYZ are the most obvious ommissions. Geddy's voice get's very annoying at times, particularly on the acoustic set where it alsmost becomes unbearable. Lifeson sometimes gets a bit sloppy and Peart's drum solo should have been left in the 70's. However, it does have some good points and well worth watching!

R30 is definietely better IMHO.
Those early vodeos clinch it off definitely.
