White Light/White Heat is a phenomenal album and Lou Reed is a great talent.  Cool band.

I love 3 out of the 4 original Velvet Underground albums ... White Light/White Heat is the one I don't like that much, funnily enough ... I even prefer a lot of stuff on VU and one track on Another View to most of the tracks on that one  ...

"Death to Utopia! Death to faith! Death to love! Death to hope?" thunders the 20th century. "Surrender, you pathetic dreamer.”

"No" replies the unhumbled optimist "You are only the present."

I think you mean "Heroin". This song is badly sung, the drumming is all over the place, the keyboard plays one chord all the way through and the violin screeches like a banshee at the end. One of the greatest songs ever - I love it.

It's a viola, not a violin. No quibbles about the magnificence of the Velvets, though. One man whose life I envy (in some ways) is Sterling Morrison - he played guitar in one of the coolest rock groups of all time in the 60s, became a university lecturer in Literature in the 70s and then became a tugboat captain in his later years. Sadly he died comparatively early (either 59 or 60) but I think you could say that he lead a full life.

'Like so many of you
I've got my doubts about how much to contribute
to the already rich among us...'

Robert Wyatt, Gloria Gloom

I love the first three albums - all countercultural classics. Shame they
went commercial with "Loaded" and "Squeeze". NICO's solo work is
stunning, though.

White Light/White Heat is a great album, but with horrible production.

I love the first 4 albums.
Check out John Cale's early solo albums especially
Paris 1919.It is fantastic and sounds like no other album before or since.

Do 'The Stanley' otherwise I'll thrash you with some rhubarb.
