None of these bands are downright bad- in fact, Druid are excellent as are Marillion. However, in terms of pointlessness, Starcastle are hard to beat; if imitation is the highest form of flattery, then Yes' heads are still swelling 30 years after Starcastle's debut! They are the closest I've ever heard to an outright tribute act that suddenly decided to write original material.

Druid however, aren't as close to Yes as I'd heard. I heard their first album a few years ago on vinyl but only today bought the CD. The songs are more polished than what Yes do, and with far more mellotrons. And Marillion don't especially sound like Genesis either to these ears...

Not keen on the word 'worst' but my least favourite of the famous prog bands is probably ELP and even they have their moments for me.
Ultimately bored by endless ecstasy!

Triumvirat is awesome.

I would say 3 men  Genesis.....No, not Prog, we're not talking about POP.

Camel is boring but not bad at all.

I would say Jon & Vangelis..........Not Prog either, we're not talking about New Age

I can't find one, I see merits in most of them.

I'd say genesis is a good answer.  Anyone here ever see the video for land of confusion?

I cant think of any, like Ivan I can findgood points in all their works, as long as we stick to their prog works that is and forget the pop that some of the greats turned to.

Some of you guys are really closed minded about what is prog. I know that there are some of you that think that because a band takes some of its influence from the likes of Metallica it isnt prog. This is quite something from people that claim to be open minded.

Spending more than I should on Prog since 2005

Personally, I have never seen what was so great about Marillion. I like some of their material, but it doesn't click with me for the most part. They may not be the worst, maybe overrated though.

Yes I agree, this song makes me  want to vomit, but in order to be the worst famous Prog band ever, it has to be prog, and THREE MEN GENESIS IS POP, as simple as that.

Of course if you want to take the band as a whole, you can't ever  consider the worst Prog band those guys who once released Supper's Ready, Musical Box, Can Utility and the Coastliners, Dancoing with the Moonlit Knight, etc, etc, etc.

Salmacis, after reading your post I decided to go back and listen to some
Starcastle and Druid. Perhaps, in spite of all these years of hearing them,
I'm just missing something.

Right now I'm halfway through Starcastle's debut album and ... nope, I
wasn't wrong.

They truly suck. At least as far as I'm concerned, but what do I know?

Sorry if my post mislead you- I'm not a fan of Starcastle either; their first album is plain plagiarism and their second is plain boring. All I was saying was that compared to some genres, prog doesn't have any REALLY bad bands.
