Topic: Contemporary Prog. Rock? Posted: December 01 2005 at 16:39 |
I am fairly new to the world of prog. rock. I have been recently real into Genesis(Gabriel era) and Yes. I love albums like Trespass, Foxtrot, and selling England by the pound. I also love every Yes album, everyone of them interests me, even the unpopular ones like Big Generator and Talk. Can anyone recomend any contemporary bands like these with the symphonic rock feel?

You'll get tons of recommendations, I'm sure, many of them great. But you should start here no matter what: Änglagård - Hybris and Epilog The albums that signaled that prog was alive and well back in the early 90s!

I don't know about starting there no matter what, but those are two
very good ones. Try Camel (first four albums) and Van Der Graaf
Generator (70 and onward, but don't start with Pawn Hearts) for more
awesome symphonic stuff.

Try KOTEBEL. They are from spain, they are contemporary, they are very symphonic. You can find them in the archive.

If your daring try the Mars Volta .They don't sound like the symphonic bands at all but they are pushing the limits of modern music.

One likes to believe In the freedom of music But glittering prizes And endless Compromises Shatter the illusion Of integrity

Maybe you should try listening to "Neushwantein", their style is based on 70's Genesis era. I also recommend "Asia Minor" and even "Transatlantic".
