I find some of their later stuff just as exciting. Although the
Discipline to Three of a perfect Pair era was very good, a new
phase started with THRAK that was much more interesting.
They performed with a "double trio", like 2 trio bands
simultaneously, with 2 drummers, 2 bassists (or Chapman
Sticks), 2 guitarists, and the materiel was somewhat more
challenging than the Discipline era. Also very ballsy is the 3 CD
Heavy ConstruKtion.

there are many kings in the great and fabulous progrock kingdom!

Certainly KC are one of the best! (especially for Red!)

My thoughts exactly! Decent albums but no where near masterpiece status!

BTW, does Fripp deliberatley play the guitar out of tune or is he really that bad?

It's called "dissonance", Mr. Music Scholar. If it's too
upsetting, better stick to Camel.

They are good but I'd rate them below Yes Genesis  Pink Floyd ELP  Camel and Jethro Tull  in the

prog hierarchy. What drags them down is

(1) Fripp's weak avant gardeisms (Moonchild etc.)

 (2) The final product seems a little underworked. Lizard I think is potentially a masterpiece but in the end it leaves me scratching my head what might have been. Similarly with Larks Tounge in Aspic.

They were certainly hugely innovative and influential but other groupd ended up with more polished productions

Thanks fo rlistening

How wonderful to be so profound

They are great. I prefer what I've heard from them over what I've heard from Genesis and ELP. They're what got me into progrock.

They have an artistis integrety like no other band! They seem to know what their doing as appose to f**kin around. A lot of bands wasted their talent a bit(elp and yes) but crimson made the best with theirs.

Jester Crimson would have been a more appropriate name. They were never King's and probably the most overated band in the annuls of progressive rock.

King Crimson has gradually grown on me. My first album was Larks' Tongue in Aspic and it was, to say the least, a bit daunting. After getting a few more CDs and listening to them more and more, i'm in love! I recently purchased the 21st Century Guide to King Crimson Vol.s 1 and 2 (8 CDs worth of King goodness!) Listening to ITCOTCK all the way to Power to Believe and yoiu can literally hear the actually "progression"

My favorite CDs are Red, Larks', and Discipline

King Crimson...I love them cause they have an edge while still having fun. Fripp basically does whatever he feels like on every album, and the result is good because while he tries hard and gives everything he has into it, I feel like he never takes himself too seriously like Yes started doing...and Genesis...and ELP...and a lot of prog rock bands from the 70s. Or I just love that kinda dissonant avant-garde touch all Crimson alubms have.

Totally disagree. Fripp was too far up his own arse and his sense of humour is zero! This man alone ruined  what ever chance King Crimson had of being remembered as one of the prog greats. Do some reading on KC biographies and you'll know what I'm saying!

I only like Islands. Very musical in a similar vein as Genesis. (Before any want-to-be expert begins snorting at me, I said "similar vein as" - not 'same as' or 'just like'. ) ITCOTCK I enjoyed the first few plays, but the allure wore off rather quickly.

I've listened to other early KC albums, but to me they were composites of disconnected jazz experiments. Didn't even sound like songs. The later albums (Beat, Discipline) didn't appeal to me whatsoever.
