Personaly I like it. It's lighter than Porcupine Tree, but I like the disk and IMO if you are a fan of PT, then this is a no brainer. Closer to what PT did earlier on and less of In Absentia and Deadwing, meaning more phsycodelic and less metal.

23 views and one reply. Come on, no way in hell I am the ONLY one to enjoy Blackfield.
I ran a search and found a few threads on the subject.

I like PT and I like the blackfield album. It's lighter, but very similar to PT. Occasionally I'm in the mood for something lighter, than I listen to blackfield. I advise people, who are a fan of Stupid Dream, Lightbulb Sun and to some extent In Absentia and Deadwing to have a listen to blackfield.

I am a big PT fan and really like the Blackfield album. It can almost pass for a PT album, even though it is a little more lighter and melodic than the last few PT releases.I highly recommend it.

Blackfield could be described as a lighter PT with an average
song length around 3 minutes. However, I find them to make more
emotional music than most porcupine tree i've heard, despite its
diversity. They certianly hold a special place in my heart, so I
really recommmend it.

yes, it's a good album.
not as good as PT in my opinion, but a really good album
although very simple and 'light' it shows that these people know how to play music...

The Hole in Me is a great song. Yes it's short, but I find it the most magnificent track on the album, and very PTish.

I say "Thumbs Up for Blackfield". Very enjoyable, and as pointed out ad nauseum, not as metallic as the last two PT releases. A very viable sidedish.

I had the pleasure of seeing Blackfield earlier this year in a very
intimate setting. It was only Steve, Aviv, and Jordan Rudess on keys.
Amazing. If you love great pop-prog with a melancholy bent, then you
must buy the album...I found it similar to PT, but more song oriented,
much like the quieter songs on PT's Stupid Dream or Lightbulb Sun.
Aviv's contributions were welcome as well, but in the same vein.
