Topic: Skyclad Posted: December 15 2005 at 01:51 |
Would any of you consider Skyclad eligible for inclusion on prog
archives. They have released more than 10 cds and I beleive their
progressive elements began to show from "Silent Whales of Lunar Sea"
all the way through "Vintage Whine".
Discuss.

Hahaha, I loved this band, they are great but they are not prog. BTW, Folkemon is a great album "Silent Whales.." is good, but it's rather heavy/power/thrash metal wit irish folk and punk rock (sic!) influences...

I do not think they are strictly prog but I think they have prog elements. Have you heard the Answer Machine?

I think I've heard only "Building The Ruin" from that album... Great track, BTW

Well Pablo P.
You really need to check out Irrational Anthems, A Qui Avant Garde A Chance, Answer Machine and Vintage Whine. Definately their best work and some definite prog influence. No Daylights Nor Heeltaps and A Sembelance of Normality are great too. Skyclad is not dead.

Well, I don't even have "Prince Of The Poverty Line" which is probably their best... I've only heard some songs from that album... Maybe I don't love them as much as few years ago but they have great ballads IMHO... The acoustic "Land of the Rising Slum", "Single Phial" and "You Lost my Memory" are my favourites... BTW, "Great Blow for a Day Job" is great

I am a huge Skyclad fan and I cannot tell you which one is the best. My personal favorite is "The Answer Machine". They have sure come a long way since "Prince of the Poverty Line" though. You named some great songs from some great albums.

I love them as well (Just finishe dlistening to A Smblance Of Normality" and now "Prince of..."), however, they're not prog and I don't see any prog elemnts on there worth while of mentioning them in PA.

Skyclad are in my honest opinion more prog than some of the other prog metal bands in here.

I like some of their stuff, but I've never thought of them as prog. Just folk metal.

I definitly support Skyclad's addition (actually it's the sole reason I registered). They're far more progressive than many of the "prog metal" bands already accepted, being as they're the founders of entire sub-genre (folk metal) and developed it in many different ways throughout their career. Skyclad is one of the few prog metal bands with any significant amount of creativity.
There should be a difference between prog metal and technical metal.
"The Answer Machine?" is my favorite as well, followed by "Prince of the Poverty Line" and "Irrational Anthems".
