In 2000, in Rome, while strolling down in via del Corso, my attention was caught by a curious exhibition in an art gallery: it was an exhibition of paintings inspired by the music of an Italian progressive-rock band, Le Orme. Since I’m fond in progressive-rock, I went in to observe the paintings… and I could talk with the painter himself, Tonino Leandro Mirandi, discovering that he was a devoted fan of the band and that the progressive music was a wide source of his inspiration. Surfing in internet, you can see this paintings on the site of this bizarre artist (http://www.toninomirandi.it/index.htm)… You can find there some series of paintings inspired by the concept albums of Le Orme and interesting photos of concerts of the group. The site is in Italian, but from the index page (Sommario) I suggest to look at the pictures at #29.

What do you think about ? Do you know, by any chance, other artists of that kind, or paintings inspired by progressive-rock music ?

I have done a few myself, but a friend of mind has done a ton based on Gabriel, Yes, Kate Bush, Genesis, etc...look up Herb Leonhard and you should find his site pretty easily.

One of the CD covers of the Polish group Collage featured a painting by a Polish painter. El Cielo by Dredg revolves around one of Salvador Dali's paintings, I forgot the name. That's all I know.

Steve Kilbey, leader of The Church is a painter himself, and from what I've heard, he gets more profit from his paintings than from the band .

Most of his work can be found here

My aunt told me that watching The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway as performed by the Musical Box was like sitting in a Dali painting.  I agree.

Thanks for the tips... I've found the paintings inspired by Yes and some of those inspired by Peter Hammill quite intersting

Le Orme + Genesis 1973
