Topic: The early floyd records Posted: December 25 2005 at 15:21 |
Lets all face it... more than half of floyds records up to dark side are below average, or terrible!! so i was thinkin, if you were to take all of your favourite songs from this period "A saucerful of secrets" to "Atom heart mother" and put it all on ONE cd?? what would it be?? mine would be something like his...
- summer 68
- set the controls for the heart of the sun
- careful with that axe eugene (Live on ummagumma)
- grantchester Meadows
- cymbaline
- let there be more light
- the nile song
- fat old sun
- a saucerful of secrets (live on ummagumma, but its better on live at pompeii)
- alan's psychedelic breakfast
well thats mine folks! I think that fits on one cd

I disagree- apart from 'More', I think all of these albums are very good; even excellent at times. There are some duff songs- 'Seamus', much of 'Ummagumma's second side, but some of them, particularly 'Meddle' and 'Obscured By Clouds', are excellent albums overall.

Meddle is certainly not below average, neither is AHM.

I can't make a list because all these albums except Atom Heart Mother are soooo bad!
But if I had to make a list, it would be the Atom Heart Mother album!

The early Floyd works happen to be the only Floyd
I wish I could enjoy the Later stuff But I just can get into it.(Same thing for Zep exept i dont even like their older stuff)
Maybe because I find It Over Produced...I dunno

Atom Heart Mother? The song itself isn't that bad. Has its moments and is a pretty good song overall. But it seems really dragged out. If is a candidate for one of the most boring songs I've ever heard. Summer '68 is the only song I really like on the album, it's very good. Fat Old Sun is pretty average, a little boring but not nearly as boring as If. Adam's Psychadelic Breakfast is... well, really bad. I don't know why people enjoy this song (I shouldn't even be calling it a song). Meddle destroys AHM by virtually every aspect. Echoes and One of these Days are two of my favorite PF songs and the rest is good.
