Hey all, my name's Ken.

I'm 38, married with children, live on the west coast of Canada, enjoy sports - watching or playing, although all I've had time for is watching the odd hockey game...Go Leafs! That was my second passion for life. My first? Of course... Music. I became engulfed by music at a young age. Picked up a bit of guitar, learned to sing, write lyrics, etc.  I toned it down for a number of years and became a workoholic. Now it appears to be back with a vengeance. There's a project studio in my house, music collection keeps growing, and I think my family has been sick of me talking music for quite some time..............................In a land before time....ooops...little too far back.

Won a copy of Rush-R30 from my local radio station (Rock 101). Man, what a great package! Certainly brought back some memories. Geddy Lee praises YES so much, it got me thinkin', did some surfin', and found this site...... Which is quite amazing, I might add.

My best friend got me turned on to Led Zeppelin and the rest was history.Also listen to Rush,Yes,Beatles,Collective Soul,12 Stones,Max Webster,Dream Theater,Pearl Jam,Alan Parsons,Pink Floyd,Deep Purple,Black Sabbath(with the Ozz and Dio),James Taylor,Genesis,King Crimson,Bill Bruford,Bad Company,Eric Clapton(and all his bands),ELP,Tool,CSN&Y,Buddy Guy,Jeff Healey,Steve Winwood,Tragically Hip,Jeff Beck,Doors,Ten Years After,Seether,Suspect,etc,etc,etc,etc,etc.

Hope I didn't get carried away with this.

How old is everyone here? What is everyones favorite bands?

Hi, welcome to the forums.

I'm one of the younger members on the forum (16), but it's hardly noticeable with my superior wit!

Random favorites- Pain of Salvation (try them if you like Dream Theater), The Flower Kings, Spock's Beard, Transatlantic, Van der Graaf Generator, Gentle Giant, King Crimson, Yes, Genesis, Anglagard, Taal.

Welcome! There seems to be a fair spread of ages on the site, I'm 45, big into Yes, King Crimson, Mahavishnu Orchestra etc., and have found my way into The Mars Volta, Tool and Porcupine Tree amongst others since joining this site. There are some very knowledgable folks here (only I'm not one of them!)

A couple of these I've never heard of (Spock's Beard,Transatlantic). Pain of Salvation...hmmm... sounds familiar. I'll definately check them out. Thanks much.

Actually,I didn't realize Dream Theater had so many albums...nice.

I'm quite surprized to see so many young people into progressive music...It's refreshing, actually.

Hi music veteran! I'm young also, 19 and kickin' butt!!

Seems you are a fan of the "grunge" era, my only well-known music territory, you should try Alice In Chains , Stone Temple Pilots, Mother Love Bone and everything Chris Cornell does!

As a Dream Theater fan I invite you to know them from head to toe. I don't know which is my favorite band but I'm  a huge Pearl Jam fan!

Don't know a lot about progressive rock yet, but I'm looking forward to it

Check out some of the samples on the site and see if you like them.  Spock's Beard and Transatlantic are similar, but TA are a prog supergroup with Mike Portnoy (Dream Theater), Roine Stolt (The Flower Kings), Neal Morse (Spock's Beard), and Pete Trewavas (Marillion).  TA only released 2 studio albums before breaking up, and they're both fantastic.  Live in Europe is also a great live DVD.

I suggest starting with Snow by Spock's Beard if you're interested.  It's a fantastic double album which is easily my favorite by them.  V, The Light, and Day for Night are also good.
