Rory Gallagher

Yesterday I went to a concert by a Dutch bluesrock artist called Julian Sas. In Holland quite famous ( or getting there ) . He played two sets. The first set with his own songs and the second set with numbers from Rory Gallagher. He played with two of the original band members that played a long time with Rory. Bass player Gerry Mcavoy and drummer Brendan O'Neill. And it was a great concert. Did anyone see this concert ?

Any thoughts on Rory Gallagher ?  I love his music. I think his three live alums are the best.

The man's early discography until Irish Tour is flawless! Albums until Calling Card and Stagestruck still good but sometimes patchy and are hard rock.

Among DVDs I would recommend the Irish tour (in B&W, though) and the single disc Rockpalast - appearances from 76, 77 and 79

The extended Rockpalast is expensive and it has shows that are expandable (80's shows) and it is a costly set.

A very gracious and humble human being, as well as being a really good guitar player.

He is sorely missed.

Lead the way for Irish bands such as Skid Row, Thin Lizzy and eventually U2. I like Taste's music a lot, but thanks for heads up on the Gallagher catalogue, I guess I've been buying the later stuff which I find patchy. Last summer recorded my vinyl copy of the first Stud album (the band formed by the rest of Taste with Gallagher's departure), and banged the recording through some audio clean-up software - worked pretty well. Stud on this album are an odd mix of Irish folk rock, jazz blues and improv (the spirit of the 60's Irish showbands coming through???) - but not at the same time.

Finally, check out the Pete Brown (Jack Bruce's song-writing partner) produced double CD Rattlesnake Shake: A Tribute To Peter Green. Gallagher's last two recordings (one on mandolin!) sit on that album.
