I have used the Moog Taurus pedals on virtually EVERY song Landsend & Transience have done, so that is 8 CDs worth of booming wonderfulness!!!

Mike Rutherford uses Bass Pedals ALL THE TIME - the specific song that comes to mind with excellent bass pedals is Dancing With The Moonlit Night... my car shakes from all the bass!

RUSH also uses bass pedals alot - especially when Geddy is playing keys... I especially love the pedals on La Villa Strangiato.

Strangers passing in the street by chance two separate glances meet and I am you and what I see is me. And do I take you by the hand and lead you through the land and help me understand the best I can

My fave bass pedal moment came in a Glasgow pub in the early 1980s.

My mates and I had gone along to the Dial Inn to see a band called Chasar. They were a Scottish 3-piece who did some terrific covers of Rush stuff - Freewill, Red Barchetta, By-Tor, etc. - among other things. We arrived early and got a table front and centre.

As we quaffed our first couple of pints, the band started going through their sound check. Unfortunately, there was something about the sound of their Moog Taurus bass pedals that they just didn't feel was quite right - although they sounded perfectly OK to us!!

For the next 20 minutes, while they made their imperceptable adjustments, we were treated to the full range of sounds and volume from the damn things. I could feel the vibration in my sternum.....the sheer power was blowing my hair back like Neil Young during a live performance of "Hurricane" in his prime......awesome!!!

Oh, and just a point raised from the post from  Mumakil above, from the very first time I saw Rush (Glasgow Apollo - Hemispheres tour) I was always impressed by Geddy's ability to play bass, bass pedals, AND sing all at the same time. Hell, I can't even do the "head pat, tummy rub" thing right!!

I was watching the new Rush "R30" DVD last night and I noted that Alex Lifeson plays a handful of bass pedal as well, for instance, take a look at "Subdivisions" where he plays it along with the guitar base during Geddy's keyboard theme, it's awesome! Those guys are freaking busy during the whole show, both hands and feet, as they also have huge effects gears being switched all the time!!!! RUSH RULES!!!

Speaking of headphones, I might start a new discussion on songs/bands that should be listened to thru headphones for full affect. Rush and Porcupine Tree spring to mind.

I agree. Rush sound great on headphones, as do Genesis, Yes... I'll save it for your headphones thread!

Ultimately bored by endless ecstasy!

Of course the most famous one was the unaccompanied bass pedal solo by MR from Genesis live.

Best solo out there!

I think On Patrick Moraz's Story of I, the first track Impact, has MEGA bass pedal. I think it is anyway.

Hello.

Good topic, these instruments are part of the ubiquitous Seventies symphonic rock:

One of my favorite Moog Taurus Bass pedal moments:

The track Actions And Reaction on Earthly Paradise from Epidaurus (Germany): halfway wonderful eruption featuring Mellotron and the Moog Taurus, goose bumps, every time!

And on the CD After The Battle from Plackband (Dutch mid-Genesis inspired symphonic rock) you will hear lots of Moog Taurus bass pedal sounds, the bass player used it also on stage in the late Seventies (when I was at about 18 years old).

Sorry I meant synth bass pedals as made famous by Moog.
