Topic: im a new 1 too! Posted: January 26 2006 at 09:38 |
Hi my name is wopper. im only 16 but id say i listen to some outstanding prog rock bands that stand out from the rest.
I listen to alot of dream theater and rush. I went to see dream theater this year at Wolverhapton on the octavarium tour and they were absolutly brilliant i wouldn't of expected them to do a song from every album! **simply amazing!!!** at the moment im listening to porcupine tree who are not bad but haven't got that sound about them like dream theater and rush.
The best album of all time to me would probably be **A Change Of Seasons** by Dream Theater
my secound favorite is Moving pictures (rush) and either vapour trails(rush) or train of thought (DT)
Ne way thats enuf about me

Hello . Try some King Crimson ("Red") and Gentle Giant ("Octopus") next. Mindboggling stuff, if you devote enough time to it .

Welcome to the sandbox of cats. Shadow Gallery are similar to DT and are very good. Pain of Salvation aren't really similar to DT, but they are awesome.

Martyn:
Welcome! You have a very good start to a collection of excellent Prog. Don't overlook some lesser known, but still very good music from bands such as Nektar, Truimvirat, Gryphon, to name a few.
And of course, my current favorite: Glass Hammer - The Inconsilable Secret.

Welcome! Young prog fans like yourself are rare from where I come form. Try listening to the older stuff like Tull, Yes, ELP and Crimson as well as the more "indigestible" one like Univers Zero or Magma. I'd also recommend Deus Ex Machina, if you don't mind somewhat operatic and occasionally overblown vocal work on top of jazz-rock-Crimsoneque instrumentation with ELP-like keyboard work and soaring violin lines.
