 Topic: Which is worse?

These are both "classic period" Yes records (both done with the classic line-up), and both are highly controversial. Which do you think is the worse of the two?

I think the worse of this two is Tormato...but its a nice album too...

No contest here. I have grown to love Tales, but always detested Tormato. Such a disappointment after the magnificent Going For The One.

I've heard a few tracks off both records, and I don't understand why TORMATO elicits such antipathy. It's a decent record, for what it is.

in my case an easy call.... the sound of Wakeman's keyboards.
Believe he switched to some new generation rig. A Yamaha or some crap
like that. YUCK.
other than that I've always liked the album, some really good songs
that got mangled in production that really sounded KILLER live.
Tales IMO is one of the greatest, most ambitious and most interesting of ALL prog albums. Not to mention best of all.

Probably one of the most talked-about discs on the site, Tales. Some people love it (corbet), while some wax almost poetic in their disdain for it (Hugues, Bryan Adair...)

I love Tales. As hard as it may be to get into, it grows on you. I love it. As Micky said, it's one of the ambitious and interesting albums of all time.
Tormato however never really caught on with me. Funny thing is that before I really got into prog, my dad told me about some old bands, including Yes, and told me how great they were and so on. He, by then, didn't listen to it anymore, but had some old tapes and records boxed up. He found Tormato one day, and gave it to me. He didn't remember much of it, so I didn't know if it was a good example of Yes or not. I knew nothing about them. I didn't like it very much, so I didn't further pursue them, but shortly after, I heard "Roundabout" on the radio in my friends car, and since then have been in love with them.

Exactly! the polarizing atitudes towards it just solidify
it, in my mind, as one of prog's greatest albums. I
liken it to art on the 'sonic' level..... some love it... some dispise
it... few have no opinion after hearing it, either way it
illicits an opinion... ie. it makes you think and react.

Tormato, at least on Tales they did not chant "Na na na na na" as they did in "On The Silent Wings Of Freedom".
