Topic: fruupp underrated? Posted: February 08 2006 at 20:06 |
fruupp underated? certainly as far as i'm concerned.i have some on vinyl but i picked up their anthology recently. although some of their earlier albums are a little raw and rough around the edges ,the compositions snd musicianship is generally a1. now heres the thing.i prefer the later line up with the excellent john mason on keys. not surprisingly then 'modern masquerade' is my favourite.'sheba's song' and 'gormenghast' are masterpieces in my view-despite being so mellow.ian macdonalds work on the album is telling and just the icing onthe cake of agreat release . yes, imo an overlooked and underrated group ++++

I have all their albums. A great Irish progressive rock band whose sound is comparable to "Trespass"-era GENESIS, with Irish-folk influences of course.

Hi Andrew.
I have a compilation CD entitled Songs For A Thought, it contains most of the best tracks from their four albums and the previously unreleased song On A Clear Day. Fruupp makes dynamic and tastefully arranged progrock, their sound is very distinctive with great keyboards, guitar and vocals.

I have their 'It's All Up Now' anthology with pretty much everything they recorded. I must say I never really saw the Genesis influence as many people did; certainly they aren't a blatant copy. Fruupp are a band that were never going to be viewed as a 'first division' act but as far as I'm concerned, they are in the higher regions of the 'second division' as they made four high quality albums without any duff moments.

I've got all of the four albums. It is good music, but not particular original.

I love some of thier stuff, but they are not amazing. They are probably underrated...i mean, Three Spires is a masterpeice, and Future Legends (the song) both part 1 and 2 are amazing!!!

I'd say their third album 'Prince Of Heaven's Eyes' was their best listening back to it. I really love 'It's All Up Now'; it's a lesser known favourite of mine.

yes, i agree-- not amazingly good and not heavy , but melodious and often mellow and showing a sense of humour and good fun in some of their work . imo this all adds to their underrated status. good to hear from some other fans out there!

They're great but yeah underrated "Modern Masquerades" was one of my first prog-experiences ever...I was told that it is "Classic Irish Folk"

I sat through all 4 albums today ... way too early to tell ... but they
seem like a band that promise more than they deliver to me ... still a
tad disappointed ... we'll see if it picks up with time ...
BTW, was interested to note that all 4 albums came out within an
amazing 17 month spell from October 1973 to February 1975 ... that is
certainly impressive!

After giving Fruupp some serious airtime ... Future Legends is
definitely my favourite, but I find that the band loses a little with
each album ...
