I believe Lords of the Backstage is in 13/8.
|
I've always counted it as 7/8.... hmmm... whatever. It's just one measure of 6/8 combined with one of 7/8.
|
Well, If you want to break it down that way, I think it works better with the first measure being 7/8 and the second being 6/8. The accents make the difference.
|
I was listening to it just about an hour ago, and I did notice something was off when I kept counting as 7/8 in the second measure. That accent does make the difference.
|
Well, on 2nd thought, it doesn't, because it's not really an accent. An accent would only be an issue if it were 13/8, in which case we wouldn't even be talking about this! The 7/8-6/8 measure sequence just fits, reguardless of accent.

Pretty much.

Frank Zappa, Soft Machine, Gryphon, Gentle Giant, Meshuggah, Henry Cow, Watchtower etc.
No, seriously, I agree on Primus.
Also, Genesis' time signatures is also pretty easy to play sometimes.

The only album of Khan, "Space Shanties", has odd time signatures galore. You can find anything from 3/4 to 13/8 on it.

i know these bands that use odd time signatures ive been listening to prog rock for 7 years i just want something fairly simple to practice too.Suppers Ready apocalypse 9/8 is a very good choice and Eleven by primus as well thanks i just couldnt think i was also thinking of trying with some of that indie math rock because i dont know much about the genre but i hear its punk influenced so maybe that stuff would be easy as well

This is a great example of an odd signature thats really easy to follow, it only occurs just before and during the guitar solo and at the end, its just like alternating 4/4 3/4. The rest of the song is in 4/4 but even Neil Peart makes that sound interesting with lots of changing emphasis on the off beats.
Try Rush's Jacobs Ladder as well but this is more like alternating 6/8 7/8 making it 13/8 or something.

Floyd's Money is a nice easy starter. It's another 7/8'er that it is really just alternating 4/4 3/4 in the verses.
It's easy to count it as a 1-2-3-4 1-2-3 over the bass riff.
