I agree that Sabbath was influential on heavy music,but they didn't "invent" it.
Releases by Blue Cheer,Iron Butterfly and The Stooges came before Sabbath's debut.

Here I thought I was one of the only people aware that Blue Cheer exists. 
I had to give it to Hendrix, because he did indeed greatly influence Zeppelin and Sabbath, but I love all three of these artists.

The heavy sound we all equate with hard rock is down to Black Sabbath. The demonic riffs and dark subject matter set the blueprint for all hard rock and "metal" bands to follow. Zeppelin were excelent in the beginning but gradually turned more to pop (see Dyer Myker) or however it's spelt. Sabbath maintained their heavy, bass laden music right up to the end.

Hendrix is the most influencial but zeppelin is my favorite.

as this is not a "favourites" poll i have to be onest and vote hendrix as the most influentia for hard-rock. purple, sabbath, judas, etc. were possible without zeppelin, but neither of these were possible without hendrix. also, sabbath were highly influential, but in metal rather then hardrock.

Zeppein without a doubt.
Jimi Hendrix is terribly overrated. His guitar tone was terrible, and he was much more of a showman than a musician.

Whoops, I mistook the poll for who is your favorite, not who is most influential, so I voted for Jimi Hendrix. I don't him that much, but I do like Mitch Mitchell. As for most influential, Led Zeppelin is definitely the most influential hard rock band.

I voted for Led Zeppelin, because Black Sabbath are a huge influence, not only in hard rock (so are Led Zeppelin of course) but also in doom, black, heavy metal etc etc.. They are two of the best bands (with Pink Floyd, Tool, etc !) that were EVER created in the world of music...! 
So, if I could vote both of them, it would really be great  |

It's a good choice because, chronologically, the hard rock influence was (among others before and after) Hendrix-Zep-Sabbath. I love Zep but the most influential by *today's* standard of hard rock is still Ozzy and the boys after 30 years. Black Sabbath.

Jimi Hendrix is not terribly overrated. How was he much more of a showman than a musician? He came up with all those amazing songs without knowing anything about music. His guitar tone wasn't terrible either it was different from anybody else at the time.
But I agree with the Led Zeppelin statement. They influenced Rush, which is my favorite band.

Yeah, Led Zeppelin influenced Rush in their first album and I'm Going Bald, but there's zero Led Zeppelin in Rush's good stuff.
