I hate close-minded people, but I'll shut up because I know that me
trying to tell people that there is a world other than Prog out there
(and no, I'm not talking about NOFX) never works.

God damn it. Im sick of all these talks that punk is the opposite of prog or punk killed prog. That it silly. Punk wasnt sent from planet Punkania with a mission "DESTROY THE F**KING PROGRESSIVE MUSIC". People needed something simple and they invented punk others needed it too, so they accepted it. P.S. Amaze may by telling that Bad Religion is a massive piece of donkey poo. Or is it an opposite of NOFX?

One likes to believe In the freedom of music But glittering prizes And endless Compromises Shatter the illusion Of integrity

Since this thread was brought back up, I'd like to point out that punk is not the opposite of prog. If anything is the opposite of prog it would be pop.

Depends entirely on what you mean by Pop. I'd say smart Pop has much more in common with Prog than most Rock does.

I'd like to say that teh decline is a great song. Also I'd like to say that despite the fact that people on a prog forum should be open-minded towards everything--you never know what you might like (but if you can back up that you don't like it then that's good. Just don't generalize. It's annoying.) But then again, this IS a prog forum so I mean the general sentiment towards genres like rap and punk will usually be "it sucks" however untrue it might be. Personally I enjoy pretty much everything in terms of musical genres except msot commercial music (commercial like birittany spears type figures--some commercial bands aren't quite as bad as they're made out to be) and I'm not big on a lot of modern country music, although southern rock is quite fun. As for punk--I like it alright because sometimes it can be extremely intellignet lyrically and also there are a few punk bands out there with mucho talent =) (NOFX being one of them--they can constrcut songs well enough and usually the lyrics are intellignetly written)

Wrong. They are actually very good at writing catchy, musically
intelligent melodies, and they are good at their instruments. You
probably haven't listened to enough NOFX to know what you're talking
about.
