I compiled top album lists on my homepage:

http://www.ratingfreak.com/home/rankings/years/2006.xh tml

Inspired by the top albums of 2005 list that Tony compiled for us progarchives collabs, I wanted to do the same for 2006 ... and then I thought - why not extend it to 2005, 2004 and 2003.

Edit 2: I just extended the list of pages some more:

Feel free to submit your own favorites - add any band or album which is not yet in my database, and rate the tracks of them album ... as soon as all the tracks of the album are rated, it will automatically appear in the top lists.

Edit: Just so there are no misunderstandings: The lists that are currently listed on my homepage are far from complete. When I created this thread I was hoping that you might help me to complete them ... you just need to create an account and rate the albums.

I can't "enter" albums in the charts ... the only way to get them listed is to rate them.

I edited the first post to clear up a possible misunderstanding here: the current list on my homepage is not something that I compiled and wanted to show you ... it is a list which you are meant to help to build. I am interested in what might be the best current prog albums, and by using the rating mechanism on my website you can help to build that list in a comfortable way. And hopefully the list will be useful for all of us ...

BTW: Currently the lists are not limited to prog ... in fact you can enter any album of any genre. But as the lists grow, I will add a separate page for prog albums.

I just added the new Davig Gilmour solo album.

Let me explain in detail how you can get your albums on the list ... I'll also include this info on my website:

  1. If you don't have an account yet - create one here: http://www.ratingfreak.com/home/register.xhtml. You cannot add content or ratings/reviews without an account ... in order to prevent abuse. Login with your account username & password.
  2. Search for the artist. If the artist is not yet in my database, you can add him here: http://www.ratingfreak.com/home/music/artists.xhtml
  3. Go to the artist's page and select the album from the list. If the album is not yet in the database, you can add it yourself on that same page.
  4. On the album page you see the list of the album tracks. If that list is not complete ... guess what: Enter the missing tracks using the form on that page. Once the track list is complete, please also check the checkbox on the bottom of the track list and submit the form. The album will not be listed in the top lists unless it is marked complete.
  5. Now you'll have to rate each track of the album. Just click on the tracks and submit the rating forms. This may sound cumbersome at first ... but it's really not that bad. The best approach is to play the album in Winamp (or your Vinyl/CD Player) and skip through the tracks and fill out the rating forms as you go. The album will show in the top lists once you rated all the relevant tracks of the album (currently bonus tracks are not taken into account).
  6. Please also assign a genre to the album. To do so just go to the album page and fill out the review form. If you like you can also submit a review there, and enter some additional infos about the album - if you own it, how you bought it, when you bought it etc. ... these info will eventually be used to create a "my collection" page for your account, and "These users own this album" boxes on the album pages.
  7. Done!

What's the matter ... are you:

  • Confused by my website - too complicated?
  • Simply ignoring it?
  • Other (please explain)
