I don`t know whether or not to call this progressive rock but a friend picked these two albums ( on vinyl ) up for me in NYC at a second hand store because he knows I`m into a lot of weird s**t from different countries. The first one is from a band called Sume and is a compilation album entitled Sume 1973-1976 and sounds like mainstream 70`s classic rock with traditional elements and is sung in what sounds Danish to me. The other is an album from a band called ULO which is from 1980 and is more progier with dreamy guitars and  occasional woodwinds The title is " Sinnattoraangama Takvsarpagit " and Idon`t have a clue what it means. It`s definitely different. I`ve been trying to find out more about these guys over the net. Anyone out there ever heard of these bands?

Sounds like you've got some great stuff there, I'm jealous.

I think Oracle would be the best person to ask about them.

I grew up in Denmark, and on occasion they (Sume) would be played on the radio. That was in the early 70es.It was very unique ,singing in their native tongue(not Danish).

Wonder if they were ever released on cd.Must find out when I go back in the summer.

All kinds of old Scandinavian stuff is being re-released.

Am glad you got your hands on some goodies.

Just checked my Danish Rock Encyclopedia.

They were Greenlanders living in Denmark. But moved back to Greenland in 77.

They had 3 albums.

Sumut in 73

Inuit Nunaat in 74

Sume in 77.

They started in 72.

Looks like there was a best of released on cd in 88.

According to Scented Gardens of the Mind (where they're the only band from Greenland listed) they released the three albums mentioned by Gr8dane and also started the first independent record label in Greenland, ULO - which also re-released their first two albums. Possibly the second album you mentioned is one of those reissues, and ULO is the name of the label rather than the band? You've picked up a couple of real rarities there - they sound fascinating.

'Like so many of you
I've got my doubts about how much to contribute
to the already rich among us...'

Robert Wyatt, Gloria Gloom
