I think Erik means that he's sent you a "private message", no?

I can't really help since I regularly have the same problem

Come to my arms, my beamish boy!
O frabjous day! Callooh! Callay!'

Hello El Bothy.

Two days ago you send me a Private Message (=PM) in which you asked me for progrock advise. I recommended you to visit the www.progwalhalla.com site (English version) because I have written many specials (USA, Japan, Italy, South-America) for it. So I was curious about your experience, for example which Argentine bands you have in mind after reading my South-America special, OK?

I am looking forward to you opinion ...

Listen to any Bach Mass. Better saying, try the Johannespassion (Passion of St. John). It suggests a COMPLETE musical library and will easily calm down your mind and open your eyes to brand new styles of music.

I had to find this thread and look for any solutions because I'm going through a bad case of "first song of an album, then a new album" disease. Nothing I put on works, I just feel annoyed and irritated. An easy solution is some herb, but that's the cowards way out. Ouch

When I have nothing to listen to, i either listen to something by the Pixies, Trompe Le Monde, Bossanova, Doolittle, ect..., or early Deep Purple like Shades of Deep Purple, The Book of Taliesyn, and Deep Purple

Well, my collection is pretty big (340 CD's plus many full mp3 albums) with at least 11 different prog genres. Still, sometimes I just don't wanna listen to them, or just can't decide what to listen to.

The best answere so far I think might be Miky's. Instead of matching an album to my mood, which never works right, I match my mood to the album.

I always had trouble sitting though The Snow Goose and appreciating the music, even though I knew it was played well. This time I matched my mood to the music by really trying to get into the story of the album and it worked. I enjoyed every second of it.

I guess my point is to have no mood, and just flow with the music, if that makes any sense. Don't think about how you feel, just think about what the music feels like.

Well folks.here is another take.
Pick up that cd you bought 4 years ago and you did not like it at all.(and haven't listened to since).
Now make it the cd of the day .Play it 5 times in a row and give it another chance.
This way ,you can go about your business and let it be the challenge to find out if you were right or wrong.
Let it spin and spin. This way you will find things you missed before.
Good luck.

*Micky puts on his suit and tie and pulls out a seat for you*

sounds to me like you are trying to match music to your particular
mood....  hense your frustration at not having something to match
it.  My professional advice to you would be to stop trying to
match your mood with a particular group or style.. .and let the
music dictate your mood. Let the music take you away to far away places
and different mental states than which you are currently in.

Take two Italian Prog albums and PM me in the morning....

Sage advice from Dr. Micky.

I have a rather large collection, but sometimes I just can't decide. That's when I will pull out someting I haven't heard in a long time. No matter what mood I am in, it usually ends up being a good choice.

Well, the same happens to me often.
Try to listen some albums you haven't heard for a long time. Maybe you'll remember that CD and you'll have fun !!
