I love Hammill, but I think the singer of after crying (on overground music) sound so much like him !!

And for Geddy Lee, I think he sound like the guy from Gnidrolog.

So I cannot really say they aer unique, but Hammill is almost unique Wink.

And for sure, Gabriel get my vote....

I only disagree in that he is the best singer in prog. But other than that, he is very unique and deserves to be heard ar least once.

The greatest singer in Prog I've ever heard is probably Mike Patton. From Death Metal Scream to Childlike Falsetto, Patton can make a variety of sounds leave his vocal chords, some of which can frighten. The same can be said for Slapp Happy/Henry Cow vocalist Dagmar Krause, who has one of the most versatile, beautiful female voices I've ever heard.

And just for the record, I find not one thing progressive about Coheed & Cambria OR The Mars Volta. I find both to be sub-par efforts at trying to give an Emo Scene edge to progressive music, which if you're asking someone with half a brain about music, doesn't fly.

I would have to say Geddy Lee, Jon Anderson, Claudio Sanchez (of Cohhed and Cambria) and the lead singer from Mars Volta (can't remember his name), and Robert Plant even though Zeplin wasn't really prog (I think that can be argued though).

I must mention Devin Townsend, that man has such an interesting and amazing voice. It is very unique and characteristic of him and only him.

(that's 5 clapping hands if you are keeping score hahaha)  at least someone read the question instead of bringing up Peter Gabriel who's style is of course unique... but his voice... no way..

I will divide my vote into two singers:

Geoff Tate from Queensryche for late prog and Peter Gabriel for the early days. Both of them are simply amazing!!!!ClapClapClapClapClap
