The response to this will probably be lukewarm at best, but I felt that posh public school boy popsters Keane deserved a mention.

The trio get my attention for a number of reasons, firstly they are about as cool and hip as the Travelling Willburys, which is aways a plus of course, but more importantly they exhibit a talent for song writing which, I feel is way ahead of their years. Their debut 'Hopes and Fears' is a collection of very strong melodies and heart felt lyrics, with isolated incidents of mild proggy ambience. While it often falls into the category of 'it all sounds the same' I have a good feeling about their future. Recently the British music industry was rocked to its foundations (ok I exagerate) by the revelation that Keane will include 'Guitar' on their future recordings. Up until now the quirky line up has comprised just keyboards, drums and vocals for live, and bass guitar (courtesy of keyboard player Tim Rice -  Oxley) in the studio.

Recently British comedian David Badeil said he liked Keane, because they sounded like Genesis. Nice one Dave! You like Genesis, but hey what Genesis albums have you been listening to??

Has anyone heard this album? Any thoughts on it at all??

Ultimately bored by endless ecstasy!

This will not be a popular view here, but I think this album is one of the best of the ceniury so far. Beautiful melodic music, with Bedshaped as abolute highlight.

Wow! Another Keane advocate on PA.

I would agree that it's possibly the best non prog album I've heard so far this century.

Best tracks IMO..
Bend and Break
Sunshine
Untitled 1
Bedshaped

But, Dragon Phoenix..do you spot any Genesis simularity like Mr Badeill did??

I think the key word is in the phrase  British comedian David Badeil...

No, I hear no similarities with Genesis whatsoever.

Their album Hopes and Fears is very good. The music on this album is very pleasant with some nice melodies. I liked it from the very first hearing on Tv.

I've only heard a few songs, but I found those songs to be very beautiful. I never picked up the album, and up until just now I totally forgot about them.

My mother has a copy of this album, hmm.  It's pleasant, but I cannot even remember a single song off it!

I do like Damien Rice though.

My wife has the album and plays it a lot. It's not bad, the singer has an excellent voice. But Genesis??!?!, no I can't see that at all.

If you enjoyed Hopes And Fears, and don't mind the idea of the band branching out just a little, their new album would be well worth a purchase.

Perhaps the Phil Collins Genesis at its most blatantly bland and commercial ('Hold On My Heart', 'In Too Deep') but certainly not the Genesis most of us here know and love...

Not a fan of Keane I'm afraid- a word that often crops up is 'pleasant'. It's not that they are bad and I guess their tunes are 'pleasant', but this kind of inoffensive music just doesn't do much for me. However judging by their sales many lap them up.

hmm is this a joke. Their song writing is so very bland. They are in this whole movement with Coldplay and James Blunt uurrrggh. Very boring band
Another emotional suicide, overdosed on sentiment and pride

I'd definitely put the new album well above anything Coldplay and James Blunt put out. Hopes And Fears is just as vapid lyrically, but I find it more tuneful than Coldplay.
