This is going to be controversial, but I feel that somebody has to represent this band on Prog Archives.

Part hardcore, part punk, all-out experimental; At the Drive-In had a very rich history.

Their first release, Hell Paso, is definitely progressive, especially the track 'Emptiness is a Mule'.

Acrobatic Tenement, their first big-time release, is a very progressive album, with structures similar to that of early Pink Floyd works.

Vaya is definitely their most progressive work; if anything, this album alone should get ATDI included in the archives.

From Wikipedia:
Quote At the Drive-In (ATDI) were an indie/post-hardcore/alternative rock band from El Paso, Texas from 1993 until 2001. The band is named after a lyric from the song "Talk Dirty To Me" by Poison.

Influenced primarily by the likes of Fugazi and Drive Like Jehu, as well as their native Texas hardcore scene, At The Drive-in crafted epic, post-hardcore and sometimes almost stadium rock-like songs with very complex time signatures and extremely poetic, cryptic lyrics. ATDI's first studio recording was Hell Paso (Western Breed), an EP issued in 1994. They quickly developed a following as intense in loyalty as the band was on stage. At the Drive-In's reputation for super-high-energy live performances outlived the band's career. It was this reputation, the release of perhaps their best-known album, Relationship of Command (2000) and their small hit radio single "One Armed Scissor" (which had a music video in circulation on MTV) that contributed largely to the very positive attention they received in the rock press towards the end of their career. Spin Magazine named Relationship of Command one of their top 10 albums of that year. The band also appeared on Late Night With Conan O'Brien and The Late Show With David Letterman performing their single One Armed Scissor on national television. According to some sources, At the Drive-In struggled to recreate their intense live experience in the studio. At one point they tried to circumvent this problem by recording their second CD, In/Casino/Out (1998), as a live studio album. In contrast to the bands first album acrobatic tenament which although undoubtedly a hardcore punk album lacked the energy seen in later works

Not only notoriously energetic and wild at shows, At the Drive-In were noted by the music press for the afros of Cedric Bixler Zavala and Omar Rodriguez-Lopez. The hairstyle became synonymous with the pair's image. However, the two have been very vocal about image, Omar said in one interview "I hate photoshoots, I get so bored. The way I look has nothing to do with the music I make, so who cares if I have big glasses and an afro? People should just put on our cd."

Even their last album, Relationship of Command, shows the elements of Prog that Cedric and Omar would later carry with them into The Mars Volta.

Who's with me?

At the Drive-In rules. I especially enjoy the last two releases, and In Casino Out isn't too bad either. They could be prog related for their relation to The Mars Volta. Their songs were pretty outlandish and experimental, but I don't know if they were prog enough to go beyond the prog related catagory.

Yeah I was thinking Prog-Related, but wow; In/Casino/Out is flat-out genuine progressive rock.

Especially the AMAZING Napoleon Solo. Just listening to it you can hear both Sparta AND The Mars Volta wrapped up in one sensitive but sensible piece.

No reasons ATD-I should not be prog-related.
let's just stay above the moral melee
prefer the sink to the gutter
keep our sand-castle virtues
content to be a doer
as well as a thinker,
prefer lifting our pen
rather than un-sheath our sword

Prog Related for sure, iat least because of the connection with Cedric Bixler Zavala and Omar Rodriguez-Lopez.

I have In/Casino/Out and it seems enough to merit a prog related standing, I guess. I don't feel too passionately that them not being on the site is a huge loss but I have nothing against them joining as prog-related.

I have nothing against ATDI being added to this site, I actually think its a fine idea. But why do we always focus on adding Prog-related and Proto-prog bands?
Beauty will save the world.
