I have been wondering this for a while, why doesn't Jeff Beck have a prog-archives page?

No one knows what the purpose of it originally was or if it had a purpose at all. Personally I think it was a pure artistic creation from the beginning.

Because not all of his works are progressive. Believe me, I tried getting him in here about a year ago. I was mainly citing his intstrumental albums in the 70s and Guitar Shop as the main sources of his prog works. They are very progressive in my opinion, but not everyone else agrees with me. |

I can definately see where they can hold albums like Truth, Beckola, and Rough and Ready out as not progressive, (I didn't list BBA, as it is in between his progressive path and his earlier blues rock roots when I listen to it). But I agree, albums like Wired, Blow By Blow, There and Back, etc. are definately progressive (at least to me as well :)). Not to mention the techno stuff he's been doing lately deserves tons of praise, all you have to do is watch it live: http://youtube.com/watch?v=wHaRAfxLd7g&search=jeff%20beck%201999 Edited by Crazy_Chester - April 25 2006 at 23:24 |

Essentially everything I argued... nice to see someone else agrees with me. |

right on, so whats your favorite album? Myself I have enjoyed everything I have heard thus far, but Blow By Blow and BBA are my favorites. :) took me a while to get into his techno though, I had to see a video of him doing it live to believe it :P Edited by Crazy_Chester - April 25 2006 at 23:29 |

Blow by Blow and Guitar Shop are my favorite albums of his. I almost saw him when he was in San Francisco 3 weeks ago... but I forgot to buy tickets. |

I cant reccomend highly enough that you go see him. Get as close as you can and you will see why he is a legend. No effects, no pick, just him and his guitar. The range of sounds he gets is nothing short of phenomenal. A must see concert for anyone who likes guitar!

Hey Crazy Chester....don't forget Beck's Bolero from Truth. I would say that it's very progressive considering the time frame. Cool moniker by the way.

I was going to go to the San Francisco show but I ended up not going as well. That's not the only show I've missed in the area though. This list is enough to make any man weep but here it is, Jethro Tull, Jeff Beck, the Mars Volta, and Johnny Winter. Once, shame on a sold-out show, 4 times , shame on me. |

that would have been awesome - Johnny Winter is another one of my favorite guitarists
No doubt, I can't wait till I finally get another chance to see him - his playing is mind-boggling
thanks no doubt, I love that whole album (got it on vinyl for my birthday a few months back). Pretty much everything I have seen him do has captured me - much in the same way bands like Rush, Frank Zappa, and (recently) Genesis, and ELP have as well |

I agree whole-heartedly. If having a catalog that's not exclusively prog disqualifies candidacy, how is Genesis here? (Not saying this to be incendiary, just making an observation) |

I believe that in this more "inclusive" clime, JB belongs here.
He's a quintessential "multi-genre" artist, though -- difficult to categorize, IMO.

I think that Jeff Beck would be a nice prog related addition. Give Mr. Vai some company!
