Which do you think is their best studio album?
My vote goes to Rising with the debut album close behind.

"Rising" for me, followed by LLRR. Things began to go downhill with "Down to Earth", and I'd rather not say anything about the Joe Lynn Turner albums. I really can't stand his voice!

let's just stay above the moral melee prefer the sink to the gutter keep our sand-castle virtues content to be a doer as well as a thinker, prefer lifting our pen rather than un-sheath our sword

I like Do You Close Your Eyes, there's that filler word again. Who's to say it's a filler? The first 3 albums are all good, they lost in when Ronnie James Dio left. Rising is the best, followed by LLRNR.

'Rising' without a doubt. I agree 'Do You Close Your Eyes' is weak compared to the rest of the album, but it has two of the greatest prog rock epics by a non prog band in 'Stargazer' and 'Light In The Black' (the latter has one of the all time great solo sections ever recorded). Never really took to the Lynn Turner era, which was WAY too polished and airbrushed for Blackmore, imo. 'Down To Earth' with Bonnet was a top quality melodic rock album, though.

They made four great albums, a decent one ("Down to Earth"), and three or four forgettable, AOR-ish albums. I can't stand Joe Lynn Turner's voice - I'd even take Graham Bonnet over him!

"Eyes of the World" is quite a good track, though Graham Bonnet's voice gets somewhat on my nerves. The real letdown of that album, though, is the awful "Since You Been Gone" . And worse was yet to come....

LLRR - title track and Lady of the Lake, Gates of Babylon, Kill the King are songs that just bounce into my head every once and a while and won't go away. And love that album cover...

Its definitey something from the Dio era. My vote would be the last Dio album or Ritchie Blackmore's Rainbow. The former album is an outstanding record.
