I've noticed a lot of people here tend to say that they don't like their country and that they aren't proud of saying where they are from.

I wanted to know why those people aren't proud.

I know I'm really proud to say I'm from Québec (Sorry to all canadians but I feel I'm more Québécois than Canadian when talking about national pride). Am I the only one?

I see no reason for you not to be proud. Since when has Canada (or Quebec for that matter) started a war and lied to its people about it?

In any case, I don't think there should be nations at all, but rather one unified world. It's laughable, I know, but I feel more of a duty to protect and serve the world than to protect and serve the United States in specific. That notion seems incredibly selfish and isolationist. That's also why the concept of treason baffles me. If my country is doing something I consider wrong, and I join the the other side, one I consider doing the right thing, what gives my country the right to say I'm committing treason. In a globalist point of view, there is no such thing as treason I believe, unless some aliens start attacking Earth and I join them.

I see your point and I perfectly agree. I don't agree at all with Québec's gouvernment right now and I protest against it and I don't believe in treason either. I'm proud of my origins and of my roots. I'm not blindly patriotic.

Just so you know, I am very glad that I have been fortunate enough to grow up healithy and to live comforably. I attribute this to the prosperity of the US. But at what price does this prosperity cost. How much damage have we done to the environment to make our economy what it is. Also, the US neglects whatever doesn't concern the well-being of its people. AIDS, Darfur, you name it, if it doesn't effect common citizens, then we don't care. I try to, but when no one else does, it's hard to see the point of caring. That is one big thing about the United States that I'm very ashamed of: we don't care.

I realize that there are far worse places I could be at the moment, but then again, there are also much better places as well. I for one would hate to live in a society were my leader claims that HIV doesn't cause AIDS, so he won't support the prevention of it. That's just plain ridiculous.

I'm proud to be an American, where at least I know I'm.....

No, but really, am proud of where I come from. But it's good pride, not bad pride.

As with most of America I was very patriotic around 9/11 and slowly lost it as Bush has attempted to destroy 3 countries now Afganistan, Iraq, and America

but I love my home, my state, and most of what I've visited in this country as well.  We have our problems but their are some very good things here too.

It's not perfect but it'll do. And I'm part of it; how can't it be great?

No, but I love norwegian nature. That's not the same.

Well - the question is "Do you feel ANY national pride?" In that case the question is of course Yes.

Of course I'm proud of the way this country fought for it's independence. Of course I'm also proud of our society - for example our social care and education are better than in most countries. I feel privileged to live here.

On the other hand I don't want to look down on other countries and cultures and I'm not very proud of the fact that over 50% of us Finns vote Right wing. Ermm

EDIT: Also the Evangelic-Lutheran Church has way too much power here. Over 80% of the population are E-L Christians and for example every company has to pay tax to the church, doesn't matter if they're members of the church or not. Evangelic-Lutherans also have exclusive right to religious programs in TV and Radio, and in schools etc.
