Really bad, not the worst ever, but pretty close.
Mediocre drivel performed by poseurs. They didn't used to be so bad, but boy did they go downhill fast after gaining a little fame.
And as for bono, ever since I heard his bandwagon jumping tirades against South Africa (my homeland) and the English (my adopted country), I wouldn't piss on him if his teeth were on fire.
I'm all for music having a message, but people as stupid as him should keep their noses out of politics and religion.
All his charity work makes me laugh as well, it's like he's sniggering at the poor - 'Haha although we'll raise ˙500,000 today, I could just hand over 10 times that and not feel the pinch'. It's like you or I putting 20 pence in a collection bowl and announcing to all our friends how magnanimous we are.

You took the words right out of my mouth. I think all his involvment is politics and rubbing elbows with world leaders is more a publicity campaign for his rock band than anything else. C'mon, he's "just a singer in a rock and roll band", not a savior. We've all seen how far the 60's idea of music changing the world got us. I like the Joshua Tree album but thats about it. After that Bono's ego is almost sickening.

U2: quite possibly the world's most overrated band. I find it hard to believe that people who ordinarily would praise sophistication in music find good things to say about U2. I guess what really upsets me is that I personally know local musicians who are not only vastly superior players but are also more inspired. And yet they are the ones who have to have multiple jobs and play bar gigs, while U2 keeps spewing forth their insipid tunes. It just doesn't make sense!
I swear I have yet to actually hear a guitar solo come out of the Edge's guitar.
By the way, did I hear correctly that Bono took a trip to Africa and gave a bunch of starving African villagers a bunch of refrigerators? Brilliant! The perfect answer to hunger is to give the hungry places to put their non-food. Ugh.

Somewhere between Good and OK, closer to OK though. So I vote that.

Good band, though some of their material is variable quality. I saw them on the Joshua Tree tour and they were brilliant as was that album. I could do without Bono's statesmanlike involvement with world leaders though. Perhps I'm being churlish, anything that helps poverty etc is to be commended, its just that unlike Geldof, he comes across as being a bit pious...

Most of their albums are very good. Great come back with their last album 'how to dismantle an atomic bomb'. I don't care for the politics surrounding Bono, I think he's a good vocalist.

They're not bad...just a bit bland. Frankly I prefer Coldplay for that type of music. They were a pretty good introduction to rock music in general, a lot of expansion can take place from there. So I think they're Ok

Not very spot on. They probably have a lot more fans among the 40+. I really love the not yet mentioned (I think) The Unforgettable Fire. Both the song and the album. I think they've released a lot of good music up to and including Zooropa.

They're quite a boring band. Nothing happens during their songs, and I could probably put a baby to sleep with their heaviest album. Not to mention Bono...
Overrated.
