Can't believe I'm the first to say Red Hot Chili Peppers.
Also: Modest Mouse, Tool, Radiohead, Marillion, Dream Theater

Argh. I was whittling hard anyway. There's just so much great music from the last 25 years that I don't understand people who don't find something more interesting than U2 to praise...

Alright, cut Portishead (which I listed because they pretty much single-handedly created a completely new genre) and Aztec Camera (whose second Mark Knopfler-produced album is weak).

Damn, I didn't get Prince in there! Oh, well...

OK, Teaflax, Portishead and Aztec Camera are out. But that still leaves 11.

I agree with U on U2 (heh). Not only can't I stand them, but also have a dilemma with that group right now. The thing is that I threw U2 in, along with a few other names, just to start this thread, but now have to count some of them as my personal favorites. LOL

Argh. Revised:

Squarepusher
Momus
XTC
Talk Talk
The Smiths
Faith No More
Japan
Metallica
Prefab Sprout (how I forgot them on the first list, I just do not know)
The Divine Comedy

That's ten.

Thing is, I could easily reel of one hundred bands from the last 25 years who have produced at least one five-star album.

Post the names of your groups before I ran away with all this data! Big smile

And, yes, the number of entries in the poll will be limited - not even all bands on this list will make it. (Just mentioning.) Wink
