Where did you stay NaturalScience and tell me about your best experiences (except the bedroom affairs on your honeymoon Wink) ... I am very curious because I love Aruba and within 5-15 years we will move to that wonderful and friendly Caribean island!

By the way, on Aruba you can buy cheap and excellent rum from many Caribean islands and Colombia and Venuzuela delivers some fine too!

I think we stayed at the Marriott.  What was really funny was that there were all these lizards hanging out in the pool area - I always laughed everytime I came out.  We just loved sitting on the beach having drinks and relaxing, then cooling off in the crystal clear waters...really beautiful.  We did some snorkeling and stuff like that, and ate and shopped a little in Oranjestad, but we mostly just "chilled".  It was much needed because at that time I was working 60-70 hr. weeks for a project deadline and my wife was stressing about wedding (you know how the girls can get Wink), and we couldn't have asked for a more relaxing vacation.

We also ate at this weird place called Twinkletones or Twinklebones or something...good food and really cheesy performances of songs like "Wonderful Tonight" or Patsy Cline's "Crazy".  Hysterical.

The Marriott Hotel is one of the biggest High Rise hotels on the wonderful white beaches of Aruba, a perfect place to rest and chill out if you work so many hours!
Snorkling has turned out to be one of my favorite hobbies, I use to go to Arashi beach, this summer I have seen and photographed the green sea turtle, blue tangs, parrot fishes, French Angelfish, barracuda's and an army of squids!
Shopping in Oranjestad is great, also along the harbour market and the good airconditioned malls.
If you intend to visit Aruba again, send me a PM!

And what's your story on Aruba, Protolongist? By the way, so many Americans visit Aruba and have their honeymoons, even the progheads LOL !

I never even had brandy, and I really don't want to.  Rum is pretty tasty, but I'm not really much of a fan of alcohol.

Flights to Aruba from the eastern United States are not too bad; we flew from Philadelphia to Miami and from there to Aruba was about a three hour flight.  Westerners tend to go to Hawaii, which I can attest is a brutal trip from the east coast (I recently went there, but only for two days on business. Cry)

I much prefer beer, but I do like the occasional Demerara rum from Guyana. (Ice cold & straight up, or on the rocks.)Thumbs Up

If you like (dark) rum, but have never had Demerara (not a brand name, but like Cognac, it's a type, from Demerara county in Guyana, South America) you really owe it to yourself to try some! It is quite popular in my island home.

The cane sugar grown along the banks of the Demerara river gives the namesake rum its unique sweeter, smooth taste. (You can also buy Demerara sugar.)Smile

Look for the word "Demerara" on the label -- if you can find it!

Sorry, but brandy/Cognac I have no use for. Yee-uck! Dead

Brandy. I generally avoid spirits as they knock me out even in small doses, I certainly try to avoid having them with mixers, but I do on ocassion like a nice Cognac after a meal out. That or a single malt.

Whiskey, preferrably Irish, but since it's not in the poll, brandy.
