You guys might want to check this out: http://www.m-base.org/sounds.html
Recently I bought the album The Tao Of Mad Phat: Fringe Zones by Steve Coleman (no relation to Ornette if I'm right), because I heard this awesome song (Laid Back Schematics) in jazz class. I paid a lot of money for it, only to find out later that this noble man (Steve) had put a lot of his albums on the web for free downloading. EAT YOUR HEART OUT (see link above). I'd say get The Tao Of Mad Phat first, because it's the only one I know so far and it really is excellent. His music is Neo Jazz and includes elements of Free Jazz, Hard Bop, Rock and Funk (from the top of my head). Recommended to adventurous jazz lovers as well a progrock/fusionheads. Yeah I read on the website before that they wanted to move to a new server or something, because of the large amount of people wanting to download this music... It's still down at the moment. Edited by Joren - June 20 2006 at 19:05 |

It's all pretty awesome stuff, certainly! I downloaded this probably over a year ago and there's so much of it I probably still haven't listened to it all!

Thank you Joren... I used to hate jazz stuff, until i listened some fusion like Return To Forever. Still not among my favourite genres, but at least i begin to understand jazz for some time.
Downloading now...

I'm downloading Black Science right now since it is the AMG pick; it's incredible. I've never heard jazz like this before. (not that my jazz knowledge is anywhere close to being extensive...or even competent.)

It's wonderful to know that there are other musicians out there sharing
my ideas about music. So far I have downloaded The Tao of Mad Phat, as
topic creator suggested, and it's amazing, so I'm in the process of
getting some more.
Definitely worth the time it takes. A great find, thanks again for noticing us! |

I've got Black Science, World Expansion, and Alternate Dimension Series I so far, and man is this stuff ever sweet! I think tomorrow i'll grab On The Rising of the 64 Paths and The Tao of Mad Phat and let them all sink in properly before i get anymore. I should be off the computer by now, but i can't stop listening
I can see myself pimping this stuff all over the place. I've already started |

Am i the only one who finds it a little on the side of annoying in places? I've not listened to all of the stuff i've downloaded yet but some of it's rather irksome |
