Well since I love videogames I thought I'd ask just whcih video game music can be considered prog???
To me the music for the Castlevania series would be something I'd consider to be very proggy.

A lot of Nobuo Uematsu's work with the Final Fantasy games is fairly inventive, especially when you consider that most of it's looped and somehow manages to retain charm.

I'd say a lot of Final Fantasy VII music sounds like something Genesis and some other groups did.
And those Ace Combat aircraft simulation games... I swear I've heard some Dream Theater-esque stuff in there, especially in some of Kevin Moore's keyboards during the early 90's.
Nobuo Uematsu's music is awesome though, for video games or not. Edited by _sam_ - June 20 2006 at 15:24 |

Yes' Homeworld from "The Ladder" album is featured in the "Homeworld" video game. "The Ladder" contains a CD Rom track that shows the bands commenting it, and briefs of the game.

I like Tormato, so shoot me! Every person in the world can't think the same.

A lot of times, "battle music" especially in video games will be in 5/4 or 7/8, like the fight music from Final Fantasy 8 or a certain chase scene in "The Simpsons Hit & run", respectively. Also, now seems like an appropriate time to mention www.ocremix.org , a site dedicated to making covers of video game music, and fan submissions make up the bulk of the site. Even resident prog band Estradasphere (on the archives) has submitted a tune (their "SuperBuckJazz", aka "Super Buck II"). There's lots of good prog submissions there, but then there's also a ton of cheesy techno music too, so use your own judgement when downloading.

I love the music from the Metroid series some of it can be pretty progressive check this site out if you will: www.metroidmetal.com
Great metal renditions of Metroid music and they can be quite progressive.
Actually alot of the music from the Metroid series reminds me of King Crimson for some reason. Edited by Jeff Schu - June 20 2006 at 15:58 |

If you can find Nobuo Uematsu's "Dancing Mad" from Final Fantasy 6, go
out and do so. It is a 17 minute marathon full of organs with a
fantastic end in lieu of ELP, but listenable.

Me and my band mates always say that the guitar/keyboard duet in the middle of Metropolis pt. 1 from DT always reminds us of Sonic the Hedgehog music

Silent Hill's music, by Akira Yamoaka, borders on the Proggy.

the music from the Age of Empires series is amazing. The Age of
Empires: Rise of Rome soundtrack is what first got me into music...way
back in 7th grade. Seriously awesome. You can play the game CDs in a
regular CD player. The soundtracks for the Thief computer game series
is awesome as well....very ambient and reminiscent of stuff like
Tangerine Dream a lot.

Not really prog, but I really do love all of the different themes from
the different areas in World of Warcraft. Some of it is kinda
reminiscient of Tangerine Dream or Floyd.

Incubus, not usually a prog band, contributed a 28 minute piece called 'The Odyssey' which was split into 4 movements on the Halo 2 soundtrack. The third movement contains a sped-up cover of 'On the Run'. This is in fact one of my favourite pieces of prog, and is definately worth a listen if you can get hold of the soundtrack (volume 1) to Halo 2. The piece doesn't feature on the actual game, as far as I know, only the soundtrack.
