Some news from Gas Gong: "STEVE HILLAGE REMASTERS Updated Wed 03 Apr'06 Steve's solo albums from the 70's are scheduled for release in remastered, bonus-tracked and expanded booklet form this Autumn. They are to be released in cronological order, 4 in October and 4 in November. And the best news is that it's all being done with his blessing and hands-on input. As soon as I have any info on the bonus tracks I will let you know. "

Fish Rising would be an interesting album to hear in a surround mix (SACD/DVD-A). But listening to the "normal" version I don't hear much room for improvement ... the mix is perfect as it is.

'Rainbow Dome Musik' is great for insomniacs. And I don't mean that disrespectfully; I value that piece of vinyl for the way in which it can send me to sleep within 5 minutes of being placed on the turntable.

Yeah, cause their system is so poor that it give an illusion of having some low...but it's false low...
Not a tensed, quick, deep and dried low.

Shouldn't we wait for the remastered version to decide which one's better? I remember that you were not very fond of CD remasters anway. How do you know that the remastered version will have "true" lows?

Of course, i don't know at all in advance how these remasters will be.
I'm not against new remasters, many are overall better than the former versions. Most of the time, highs are softer and more detailed -thanks to progress in numeric technology- but the bad trend these days is to overbump the low -especially in the "rock", progrock genre-, thing that they didn't do in the early 90's when CDs were more equilibrated.
So, there's no absolute rule, most of the time, new remasters are better: more information, wider soundstage, better dynamic and softer highs, etc..., but sometimes low are so bumped that it becomes unlistenable on a good neutral system. (Sometimes it's better to unplug the sub).

I've really no idea what either of you are talking about, but i'm all for Steve Hillage remasters. They generally sound a lot cleaner and in short: better. Roll on Autumn
