Why is The Who not considered a Proto-Prog band? They created the concept album Tommy, and used much synth in their recordings. Seems to me that they could get away with being in the archives if The Beatles can.

Quadrophenia also sounds rather proggish. Quadrophenia is probably my favorite album of all time. A masterpiece.

My isn't this site full of craziness? We're all so bitter about the freaking genres. The Who progressed quite a bit, but so did other bands. You may as well just put every musical act to exist on Prog Archives.
I will now leave this and all other band-inclusion topics alone forever... I could argue with myself over the merits of putting in The Who and the merits of leaving them out. I just can't decide! |

I wouldn't mind seeing The Who is either Proto or Prog Related as they've had many progressive moments throughout their entire career. I mean, A Quick One, While He's Away (the first mini-opera as they call it), The Who Sell Out (a loose concept album), Tommy, Quadrophenia, Who's Next, they had quite a run with many progressive overtones.

I'm not so sure they should be here. Tommy sounds like very good rock music to me.
Shouldn't this thread be in the bands suggestions section? |

Don't have strong arguments against them not being here, don't have complete arguments against them being here; so-so.

Guys, this is at least the third time The Who are discussed here... Why doesn't anyone bother to use the Search function for a change? Check this one first:
http://www.progarchives.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=4012&KW=The+Who and this one too: http://www.progarchives.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=14825&KW=The+Who There was a third one too, where Chopper pointed out that the band were rejected in a poll in the Collabs section (it was last April). |

No doubt proof that they belong... Wait, the Who aren't listed, and the Beatles are?!? The Who invented the rock opera! I think... |

Yes, and I'm going to have a field day closing them all... This is what I'm doing now, having posted links to at least other two such threads! So, please, use either one (possibly the second), as it's time to make some order on this forum... Edited by Ghost Rider - September 05 2006 at 03:22 |
