^I know it's a bitch, but for the time being - we are sadly not able to erase these buggers, unless we jump to unnecessary means, but that is indeed a slippery slope.
A little while back we had a discussion about this, and luckily so - these posts were eradicated from the thread as no one should be able to double what these idiots have been doing.

Just so you know, and I can vouch for admin's reasons.
Otherwise, if you, and others for that matter, feel discouraged by these buggers, then I urge you to PM an admin, and maybe he'll clear things up better than what I have offered here.

Let's think.....Remove the top 100 from the home page ?  Even the most crap of the reviews says more than hundreds of ratings. Maybe the top 100 can be sacrificed...maybe just for a while...

We have restricted the possibility to vote in the polls to newbies, perhaps something similar can be done for ratings.

Over the effing moon.

I'd be happier still if he fixed the bug in the delete all ratings routine.

It's not a big problem to get out of the newbie zone.

But it takes time and you have to repeat it for each of the fake accounts. In the case of Jose Natal we are speaking of about 50. It would make it more difficult, specially if you are using a software.

We can't force people to join the forum just so they can review or rate albums - some of our top reviewers have never posted on the forum.

One simple solution would be to limit the number of ratings-only that anyone can make in a 24hour period.

I'm just looking for ideas, the important is doing something.

To limit the number of ratings to 1 per day is a good idea, although a lot of reviewers are posting 5 or more reviews a day, so the disagreement will be big.

Sorry, (and I do appreciate the good intentions), but this isn't "doing something". Fixing a stupid little overflow error that stops us deleting member ratings would be "doing something" - suggesting ideas that won't be put into use is not.

Nahh. He's talking only restricting the ratings-only, which I think is a great idea.

I don't know how this software works. Are you saying that it's because of a bug?
Without knowing the software and its limits I can't guess what can be put into use or not. I haven't tried to delete member ratings and I'm almost sure that I'm not granted to do it, but this means that I've not received any "overflow error" message.

However the credibility of the site is put under risk. My last "suggestion" is a disclaimer on the home page. People must know that the ratings are not reliable and if they are here to decide whether to buy an album or not they better read the reviews.

This is a tad insulting, even personally so since I just posted my review of the album this morning.

I'm Anglo-centric and American-loathing because I rated four stars instead of five?  Ermm

^Yeah what the hell is wrong with you man?
(Kidding aside, I'd rate it the same - although the previous 3 efforts Crossings, Sextant and Headhunters are all masterpieces to me personally)

BTW I am a European, Scandinavian to be exact, and I just gave Bennie Maupin's Jewel in the Lotus a full 5 stars, so it kinda smoothes things out a bit in the end...

"Herbie's THRUST is a perfect example of how European-leaning, Anglo-centric and downright American-loathing the reviewers on this site can be. It would just *KILL* some of these reviewers to give this landmark recording a so-called "masterpiece" score.

If Herbie's Hancock is not a FIVE STAR effort in the world of progressive music, then please tell me what is? Oh, of course! Anything Anglo or European qualifies, immediately! Right, I forgot who the audience is...."

Erm, Herbie Hancock's Crossings for one?

I'd "only" give Thrust four stars myself.  From the 70s, I like The Mwandishi trilogy albums (Mwandishi, Crossings, and Sextant) the most, but I prefer Thrust to Headhunters.  Bennie Maupin's Jewel in the Lotus is a great album, though I somewhat prefer the related sounds of Priester's Love, Love and Eddie Henderson's Realization.

It's a ridiculous commentary.  Miles Davis and Herbie Hancock are two of the most popular artists in JRF.  And the American Frank Zappa is one of the most beloved names in PA.  And then there are all those popular Prog Metal bands, as well as US psyche ones in PA.
