Topic: Dark Tranquillity...the other DT Posted: September 09 2006 at 15:11 |
I just got my first Dark Tranquillity cd a few days ago and . This is what death metal is all about! The album I purchased is called Haven. Is anyone else into this band? I think anyone who likes Edge of Sanity, Dan Swano or Opeth would also like this band. Mikael Stanne, the vocalist, has one of the best voices in death metal IMO. At least up there with Swano and Åkerfeldt.

Yes- I have 4 of their albums- I am a huge fan of In Flames and I heard about DT kinda through that way. I find them very original and enjoyable to listen to.

I heard clips of Whoracle, and really really liked it....but their new album doesn't interest me so much. It seems like In Flames is selling out, but I don't have any of their albums, so I can't really make an accurate judgment.
***EDIT I just realized I posted this in the wrong section. Can Someone plz move it to the Non-prog music section? Thx.

I have their entire discography including the Live Damage DVD. You all know I'm a DT fanboy. Anyways, Dark Tranquillity is the best melodic death metal has to offer. Creative, skilled, melodic, and even somewhat Progressive they are. Damage Done Projector Mind's I The Gallery Haven Character Skydancer is the order I would rate their albums according to how much I like them.

They suck. I really don't understand why anyone likes In Flames. Their newer matierial isn't Melodic Death Metal anymore, it's a mix between Nu-Metal and Metalcore which few seem to respect. Their older matierial is the same Melodic Death Metal song with different guitar chords. The structure is beaten past death. With the same thing happening over and over again. Lead guitar intro, rythmn guitar joins, rythmn section joins, and then there's some singing before a solo, then more singing before the song ends. Not an ounce of creativity.

Last album I heard from them was 'Soundtrack to your Escape' and It wasn't that great, I admit. But saying they suck? Jester's Race, Whoracle, Colony, Clayman, they were good albums.

^ partly agree Tlossy I believe both In Flames and DT have turned to 'commercial' metal for me In Flames stopped producing interesting albums at Reroute to remain (a bit commercial but still good) DT stopped ages ago at the Mind's I, the rest since then is way too commercial for the successors of the ulitmate At the Gates My favourites of both bands are the Gallery and Mind's I from DT and Whoracle from In Flames

Ahh, now you are talking. 'Slaughter of the Soul' has to be the ultimate melodic death metal album. Even though the songs on it sound a lot like each other, the sheer energy and marvelous riffs kill me every time. One of the best swan song albums ever.

I partly agree. When it gomes to riffs, there's no band that can touch At the Gates. I think Terminal Spirit Disease is a little better than Slaughter of the Soul. It must be the cello in the first song. I like Dark Tranquillity more, because they weren't about riffs. They just made a lot of good compostion with a many different textures. They're the only melodic death metal band that really used clean guitars well on a consistent basis. I mean just listen to songs like "Of Melancholy Burning", "Hedon", "Insanity's Crescendo", "Haven", and "At Loss For Words ".

They're not one of my favourites, but i enjoy them enough. I have The Gallery, which is great, and i like most of what i've heard to an extent. I'm also going to see them live in about a week.

I've heard a couple of songs, and I really liked them. I might look up a couple of albums by them...
