I want to get a way from progressive rock, just for a sec...and ask and share some other stuff I like...

Dio
Black Sabbath
Deep Purple
Iron Maiden
Rainbow
Blackmore's Night
(Renaissance)
Elf
What about everyone else?
It's got to be slow
Taking love the only way
It's got to just flow
Making love and taking time to let it grow

Personally, I like most of what you like too... You mentioned some of my all-time fav bands, as most longtime PA members know. I like many classic hard rock and heavy metal groups, and to your list I'd like to add Judas Priest, Metallica, Megadeth, Thin Lizzy, early Ozzy Osbourne, Gillan (until 1982), Whitesnake (up to "1987"), Gary Moore (my favourite guitarist after Blackmore), Glenn Hughes (my favourite vocalist), and the mighty Blue Oyster Cult.

I also like other kinds of rock, but the bands and artists mentioned above remain my favourites. And I'm a woman too...Wink

Man, you don't get to see girls with great tastes like that! If you like Gillan, you should look into Born Again (the Black Sabbath album) he sings better on there than anything he has ever done! Seriously!

I own "Born Again" in vinyl, and saw Black Sabbath performing with Ian Gillan at Reading Festival in 1983. I can't say I was very impressed, though... especially when they played "Smoke on the Water"!Wink

how thew heck you guys (and gals Wink) forgot Alice Cooper!?!?!?!?
oh that "School's Out" albumThumbs Up

btw, rainbow111: Deep Purple and Blackmore's Night are already acclaimed as "prog" (at least "proto-prog" for DP) by progarchives. even some of the other stuff you mentioned are discussed now and then to be included or not! (apparently, this will never happen!Wink maybe one chance for Jon Lord, who isn't mentioned either!)

I personally think Deep Purple are the definitive representatives of "Heavy Prog" genre (which is not yet acclaimed by archives, either - other similar artists are Uriah Heep, Birth Control, Dies Irae etc.) in the early seventies... In Rock, Fireball and Machine Head albums, along with live Made in Japan are masterpieces of the genre IMHO... even later works Burn and Stormbringer are great!)
Listen to Turkish psych/prog; you won't regret:
Baris Manco,Erkin Koray,Cem Karaca,Mogollar,3 Hürel,Selda,Edip Akbayram,Fikret Kizilok,Ersen (and Dadaslar) (but stick with the '70's, and 'early 80's!)

Out of PA? Almost nothing. There are some groups/artists I like which aren't here, but I, personally, consider them Prog. Led Zeppelin, Jon Lord, Steeleye Span, The Doors... The Doors are one of the five the most favourite groups of mine at all...

But all these are very known names. There is, however, another group, also in my top five, which is less known. It is called Huun-Huur-Tu... The Tuvan group...

Well I'm getting away from prog once in a while with classical music, the essential music that is.

Laurie Anderson isn't prog, probably won't ever be prog, she's my main "off-topic" admiration.

I also go lately with some jazz. Some (Abercrombie, McLaughlin) are of a Jazz-Rock identity over here, still it's a detachement for me and a different flavor: Surman, Dennerlein, Haden, Corea, Weber et caetera
