When Rick Wakeman's band became Christian?
Who are you and who am I to say we know the reason why... (D. Gilmour)

Not too keen on the term Christian Prog Band, maybe Spiritual, or a band with spiritual elements.

Proto Kaw is amazing!

I voted for Wakeman since he's the only one I've actually listened to, I got a couple of his albums on vinyl; Journey to the centre of the Earth, Six Wives of King Henry and the Knights of the Round Table.

Kansas and Proto-kaw are bands that have/had Christian members.  They are not part of the Christian music scene.

Well, Kansas had a Christian period when Robby and Steve left the band, Kerry recruited John and Dino Elefante (Both reborn Christians as him) and turned Kansas into a les than mediocre ROCK/POP Christian band because those albums were anything but Prog.

But Wakeman???? I don't know maybe he's Christian but he almost always based his compositions in historical characters, literature works and some New Age Parallel history like No Earthly Connection.

But Christian band???

Although I haven't heard any of those, the sound clip of Ajalon's "What Kind Of Love" on this site was something refreshing to me!

No, Kerry Livgren only became a Christian once Audiovisions was released. Even then, there were never any lyrics with the words "Jesus" or "Christ" etc..

I believe Dave Hope became a Christian, as well.

While Livgren was in Kansas, you could definitely pick up on some underlying Christian themes. Especially "End Of The Age" and "Crossfire".

I also believe Livgren became a Christian during the Monolith tour, and not the Audio Visions.

I voted for Neal.

Yeah, he became a Christian during the Monolith tour, but Monolith has no references to Christianity. A lot of people think songs like "Glimpse of Home" are about Christianity, but it was about the Christ in The Urantia Book, not the Bible.

I do not know Iona yet, and I don't consider Wakeman to be Christian band, thus I voted for Glass Hammer, as I like them better than Neal Morse. There is also quite good and very Christian band called Akacia. Check them out.

Iona are a Christian band and utterly amazing. They are playing the church at Warter (15 miles east of York, UK) in November and I will be there for sure, even though I'm an atheist. The Book of Kells is one of the best albums ever recorded.

Excuse me? Are you so far up your butt that you don't realize that some of the greatest inspiration comes from religion? (Well, second greatest, since women are the reason most of us play, anyway ). I may not like Christianity, but I hate people that immediately condemn everything Christian. There is some good Christian prog out there, if you manage to pull your head out of the ground and look for a change.

Christian band? The notion is pretty stupid, to be honest. Christianity has been a widespread religion for a while, so what's so awkward about people in bands being Christian?
It's not like there is this obscure circle of musicians adhering to some obscure sect or something... It's just Christian believers like hundreds of billions of other people on the globe, who happen to be playing in rock bands. Doh.
Being a Christian does not imply singing praises to God whenever you get the chance to say something. You can sing about anything, in any terms. There are infinite ways to praise God/declare your faith, and most of them are actually indirect. A very concludent example of this kind of perspective is Threshold - a band with obvious allegiance to Christian belief, reflected only sparsely in their lyrics, and mostly by metaphorical means.
Of course, if Morse chooses to make his personal religious experience a subject of his lyrics, it's perfectly fine if he does so. That doesn't make him the only Christian musician around. The same goes for the other examples in your list.
Lastly, of course many musicians we know and appreciate have very little religious education and haven't exactly been focusing on exploring their own spiritual potential, i.e. they don't master the art of belief so well. That doesn't mean we can make generalisations or assume that what Steven Wilson thinks is probably right because SW is a brilliant composer and producer, so he must know something. If you want pertinent opinions on religious matters, ask a theologist. Or at least ask Robert Fripp, for heaven's sake, he may very well have a better relationship with God than Neal Morse, just that he doesn't choose to go shouting about it on a cd.
Music cannot be classified on such grounds. "Christian prog" is as vague and meaningless as "love metal". I'm beginning to think this (over)classification trend may be negatively affecting individual thought.
