I'm simply curious to find out if people prefer Yes to Genesis. I respect both bands, both have their shining moments, virtuosic musicians, and great concepts, but I feel that Yes is a joke when compared to old-school Genesis.

I like Genesis more, but Yes is not a joke in comparison with anybody.
This is more a matter of taste than a matter of musical quality and denying the qualifications of Yes is denying Progressive Rock.
The only aspect I never could get into is Jon's voice.

Genesis, easily. I love Yes too, though I don't find them as good as Genesis.

I can´t vote, I love both equally, genesis was my first love with selling england by the pound, and recentely I discovered close to the ege. Undoubtely both are the best bands in this website.

If either of these bands is a JOKE, surely it will be old-school Genesis? Think of 'Harold the Barrel', 'Willow Farm', 'The Battle of Epping Forest' etc.
Seriously I don't see how you can like one but not the other. I never had a problem with Jon's voice - I myself used to sing like that! |

I prefer yes.
Genesis is O.K, but they never "clicked" for me. I find them a bit boring at times, actually. |

Both bands are great, I have trouble choosing between the two of them. But I have seen Yes live more times, so they get the nod.A joke - NEVER

Of course you can, taste knows no limits, hey I don't like most King Crimson.
But not liking them doesn't allow me to say King Crmson is a joke. Yes and Genesis musicians are skilled, they wrote excellent music (Well, excellent is also a subjective term) you can like one more than the other or even hate one of them, but calling Bruford, Collins (Drummer), Wakeman, Banks, Howe, Hackett, Gabriel, Anderson, Squire or Rutherford a joke well....
BTW: If your voice is like Jon's, try to learn some instrument

It's just a matter of taste. I'd choose Genesis, I like them more than Yes. but those bands are simply excellent.
By the way how can you say "Awaken", "Gates of Delirium", "Tales..." are a joke??!!! I just can't uderstand. |

I love both bands a lot, but who I like more depends on how I feel at any given moment.

wow, of all the flaming arguments possibilities...
Genesis are better, brighter, more brilliant, more beautiful. Of course, not to believe Yes are loose by my liking. During their classic period, they were as astonishing as any proclaimed and value classic name of the progressive rock movement. Just that...I have Floyd, Genesis, Crimson and Jethro ahead. I just can't for the life of me find any interest in Yes. I don't know why, I can get deep into Camel, Genesis, VDGG, I can even go ape sh*t over some good old Magma, but Yes never connected with me. I don't like Jon Anderson musically, his vocals, his lyrics, anything really (love Chris Squire's playing though). It's just a taste thing.

Musically, Yes intrest me much more, and music as opposed to words is where my loyalties lie.
