STRANGELANDS

And Jesus said unto John, "come forth and receive eternal life..."
Unfortunately, John came fifth and was stuck with a toaster.

Here is an easy question:
The name of the "Lost" Crazy World of Arthur Brown lp. Issued only some 19 years after which it was first conceived.

I think there's a Top of the Pops DVD that's either already out or coming out soon: it's a celebration of TOTP over the last 40 years, and for 1968 it contains a performance of FIRE.

I don't think he's Sally Simpson's father. He's the Preacher in the song "Eyesight to the Blind". Eric Clapton sings the song, but Arthur comes in waving his little star thing around singing "She's got the power to heal ya! Never fear!" Great stuff.

I have some Arthur Brown mp3s. Perhaps we should all upload them to the site so that all can appreciate his genius?

www.godofhellfire.co.uk is a fantastic site for information on Arthur's career!

Returning to Arthur Brown and even when for some people his music may sound uoutdated, is incredible to see how influencial and underrated he is.

He invented the stage diving long before other people even dream of, his theatrical acts influenced many metal and progressive acts, nobody dared to set fire on his head before him, as you noticed his makeup was copied by Alice Cooper and later by Kiss.

But the most important, his music not only influenced Prog' but also blues and even punk and metal. The guy is very talented, don't know why he kept such a low profile, maybe because he was absolutely insane, which in his case wasn't only a pose.

A curious note, for those who saw the movie Tommy, Arthur Brown is Reverend Simpson, the father of Sally Simpson.

Before becoming the god of hellfire*, Arthur Brown was apparently a philosophy lecturer at London University. His backing band became Atomic Rooster, so he got a new band together. The guitarist was called Android Funnel, because, Arthur helpfully explained, he was an android who wore a funnel on his head. His musical output has been very uneven, but the world would have been a lot more boring without him in it.

Quote OK, can someone please tell me who Arthur Brown is as I've only heard his name and don't know a damn thing about his music

Arthur Brown was one of the craziest and most influential musicians of the British Psychedelia movement.

His most famous album The Crazy World of Arthur Browm is considered to be one the best elaborated albums of that movement, Carl Palmer played in this album and ELP plays a version of Fire (His UK hit) in The Return of the Manticore.

The side A of this album is often considered the best side of any pre 70's album.

After this album he changed the name of the band to the name of the album and continued playing with less success up to the 70's with his new band Kingdom Come, he was recently on a new tour withthis last band.
